Story
Deep down here by the dark water lived old Gollum, a small slimy creature. I don’t know where he came from, nor who or what he was. He was Gollum—as dark as darkness, except for two big round pale eyes in his thin face. He had a little boat, and he rowed about quite quietly on the lake; for lake it was, wide and deep and deadly cold.

I loved this book. I particularly lije the way it’s presented as if a storyteller was telling the tale to you. I very much disliked the movie when I compared it to the book. I found one has to forget the book to enjoy the movie. The book is so rich and endearing, but I don’t like all the fighting.

Experience the first Killashandra Ree adventure, in which the indomitable Killa overcomes disappointment in one career by diving into a much more exciting one. Filled with suspense, anguish, romance, and intrigue, this distinctive adventure is one of Anne McCaffrey's best.

Why record a book just to ruin it? This version of the story is so awful that I couldn’t remember why I had liked it so when I read it. Then I learned that it’s abridged. Theres no warning either that they have cut chunks out of the book.

Story
Killashandra Ree has spent ten grueling years in musical training, anticipating interstellar celebrity as a vocal soloist. She is young, beautiful—and still without prospects. After learning that a flaw in her voice will prevent her from singing lead, she hears of the mysterious Heptite Guild on the planet Ballybran, where the fabled Black Crystal is found. Mining this strange form of crystal is a dangerous occupation but to Killa, the risks are acceptable. Remarkably, her adaptation to crystal mining is unusually easy. The problem is—few people who land on Ballybran ever leave.

Story
Tembreabrezi is like Eden - a beginning place. There, Hugh and Irena assume they have merely discovered an escape from the dull monotony, even the terrors of their regular lives. But Tembreabrezi has a secret, a dark fear that is threatening the very life-blood of the kingdom. Hugh and Irena were led there for a purpose, selected for an impossibly hopeless mission. If they accept the challenge, they may lose everything - their new-found paradise, and possibly their lives.

The beginning place review

I love this story and although its not really typical of LeGuin, its a really good adventure story. I liked both the main characters, especially the boy, and I like the way the story ended. I would have liked a little more explanation of where the beginning place was and more details about the people. They’re not very nice to send two kids into danger without explaining anything to them. The atmosphere of the place is well established, the low light, the forests and the mountains.

I find this a mystical, haunting tale. The descriptions of the marsh and the factory are both good, giving a strong feeling to the lovely, natural world vs the industrial word. I don’t see why the people who found her sent her to that soulless city job. Her longing to be back in the natural word is understandable. But just because a woman interrupts a concert wouldn’t mean she had no soul. Where did her soul go? And since she had only a wild thing’s little handmade soul would she as a human, get to paradise where the wild thing had wanted to go. It’s a sad tale, but very beautiful.

This is a great book. I found a great read here with her descriptions of the world of the enforced lives of the woman and Tenar’s release from that life. Too bad they couldn’t all get away.

Lovely story. I have loved Andre Norton’s books since I was twelve and discovered her. She led me into many discoveries from the content of her stories. In those days, they wrote books for boys, thinking that only boys would like science fiction. But they were wrong!

This is a fine book. Lovely story, good characters and a pleasing ending. You do need a good vocabulary to follow him sometimes but I have a good vocabulary so it was fine with me. I love the way he uses words. I especially liked the theme of living with your planet instead of just on it.

This is a very good book, with a good dramatic plot with a love story added. It is not a bodice buster. It is in the best tradition of Georgette Heyer. One of her better ones. The character of Hugo is well drawn and the conversation between him and Anthea are funny and sweet. Lots of adventures with smugglers and excise men.
