Story
Lisa Jakub has always been a little weird. Sensitive. Emotional. Introverted. What else would you expect from a former child actor turned writer? But the issue wasn't just an artistic temperament; Lisa was constantly trying to hide her debilitating anxiety and depression. She assumed that retiring from her 18-year acting career and leaving Hollywood was going to be the cure for all of her issues. Guess how that worked out?

Story
Lisa Jakub had what she was supposed to want: She was a working actor in Los Angeles. She had more than 40 movies and TV shows to her name. She had been in blockbusters like Mrs. Doubtfire and Independence Day. She walked the red carpet and lived in the house she had bought when she was 15. But something was missing. Passion. Purpose. Happiness. In this funny and insightful book, Lisa chronicles the adventures of growing up in the film industry and her difficult decision to leave behind the only life she had ever known.

I've listened to the audio book two or three times now, and it's just as captivating each time. She tells her story clearly enough and thoroughly so that you feel her pain, anxiety, joy, cheers, and everything in between.

Story
Hysterical! Ten years ago, Uproar took the explicit-lyrics, grown-up version of this classic performance off the market in favor of the edited "clean" version. Now, on the 10-year anniversary of that decision, we are happy to bring it back. Enjoy!

Story
Welcome back, John! After two years of dancing in high heels on Broadway starring as Edna Turnblad in "Hairspray", John is finally back on the comedy stage. Making Lite of Myself is John's follow-up to the uproarious and extremely successful Show Me the Buffet which, years later, continues to attract fans. When asked to describe his stand-up, John Pinette says, "I talk about my life. It is the funniest thing I can think of. For some reason, people enjoy seeing me lose my cherub-like demeanor".

Story
Heavily tattooed and foul-mouthed, Nadia Bolz-Weber, a former stand-up comic, sure as hell didn't consider herself to be religious-leader material - until the day she ended up leading a friend's funeral in a smoky downtown comedy club. Surrounded by fellow alcoholics, depressives, and cynics, she realized: These were her people. Maybe she was meant to be their pastor. Using life stories, Nadia uses humorous narrative and poignant honesty to portray a woman who is both deeply faithful and deeply flawed, giving hope to the rest of us along the way.

Nadia Bolz-Weber "says it like it is", which not only is moving, but helps me to remember that I, too, can be a pastor AND be a person.

Story
Blue Collar Comedy star Bill Engvall is just a guy. He's been one his whole life. He can't help it; he was born that way. And that makes him an expert on the subject. For the record, here's the official definition of a guy: a person who doesn't think before he speaks. He can't. He's not that deep. Because a guy has only three basic needs: eating, sleeping, and sex. That's it. Just a Guy chronicles a lifetime in pursuit of those needs.

Just a Guy is just a guy
Reviewed: 03-15-14
What did you love best about Just a Guy?
Bill Engvall gives a humorous and lighthearted insight on his life, but also exposes his real self - admitting in parts how much of a guy, or real man, he really is, opening up about his family life, including one of the most scariest times of his life.
I laughed, I related, and I even found myself shedding a tear or two with this Guy.
Which scene was your favorite?
My favorite scene was when he offered a doctor & staff some tickets.
... you'll have to hear the story to get the rest.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Engvall already says it - "Just a Guy"
Any additional comments?
Engvall's audiobook has plenty of breaks. Where many go on and on, he reads it in a simple way, with some "quick shots". This is a great listen for the long hauls or the "piece together for some short trips"
