Excellently Told Classic Tales!
Reviewed: 06-10-19
If you're looking for some classic horror tales read by superb narrators, this is your audiobook! Although only 2 hours 18 mins long, I find this a great purchase (I got it on one of the frequent sales). The narrator on the first two stories was my favourite, and I enjoyed The Phantom Coach the most of all of them with The Judge's House as runner-up. Check this one out if you're a fan of classic horror!

I enjoyed listening to these old-style tales from H G Wells, none of which I had heard before. Coming in at one hour and twenty minutes I powered through this in one day during my commute. The narrator was excellent and did some great voices for the stories. Recommended!

Reviewed: 05-16-19
This is a very short audiobook at only 33 minutes, but I picked it up at one of the 50% off sales so thought I'd give it a go. The stories were very good - I had never heard The Night Wire before and found it entertaining. Both narrators were very good, as was the audio quality. If you like older style tales, give this one a go when there's a sale on.

Enjoyable Collection of Old Short Stories
Reviewed: 03-28-19
I had never read any of these stories before so I thought I'd give it a go. All of the narrators were very good, but I did guffaw at the English accent done in the first story (it grows on you though). My favourites were The Graveyard Rats and Calling Card. They are all horror-related, but the last story is sci-fi. It's an enjoyable listen if you're looking for some scary short stories.

Excellent Modern Retellings of M.R.James Classics
Reviewed: 03-21-19
I heard about this audiobook online and thought I'd give it a go. The fact that it was retellings of M.R.James tales with a modern setting AND an audio drama intrigued me. The production is top-notch - all of the sound effects really add to the telling of the stories, and the narration is fantastic! The way the stories were transposed to the modern era was done well, just keep in mind that these are stories inspired by the originals so there will be differences between the two. They chose some of the best M.R. James tales to redo, with Casting the Runes and The Treasure of Abbot Thomas standing out as the most well done. I'm looking forward to the next volume in the series!

Story
Mark Gatiss ( Sherlock, Doctor Who, Game of Thrones) reads chilling tales by the unsung master of the classic ghost story: E. F. Benson. There's nothing sinister about a London bus. Nothing supernatural could occur on a busy train platform. There's nothing terrifying about a little caterpillar. And a telephone, what could be scary about that? Don't be frightened of the dark corners of your room. Don't be alarmed by a sudden inexplicable chill.

E.F. Benson Classics Excellently Read by Gatiss
Reviewed: 10-28-17
Nine E.F. Benson stories read by Mr. Gatiss. I was pleasantly surprised by his performance - he has a great voice and did some enjoyable character acting. I thought his voice for Mrs. Amworth was more like a creepy old man and a bit out of place, but still entertaining. The stories in this audiobook are:
- Spinach
- In the Tube
- The Room in the Tower
- And No Bird Sings
- Negotium Perambulans
- The Man Who Went Too Far
- Mrs Amworth
- Caterpillars
- The Bus-Conductor
Highly recommended to classic horror fans!

Excellent Cast of Characters for this Audio Drama!
Reviewed: 12-30-16
I have always liked the story Carmilla, and I was intrigued by it being an audio drama with multiple actors. Dr. Hesselius started out the story, and was WAY too dramatic with the pauses for his opening dialogue. Once you get past that it was FANTASTIC! Rose Leslie stole the show as Laura, who has a outstanding voice and it a superb actress. Get this audiobook, you'll love it!

Machen's novella The Great God Pan is often cited as one of Lovecraft's most notable influences. In it, Dr. Raymond's ultimate goal is to devise a way to open the mind of man so that he may experience all the world has to offer. He calls this "seeing the great god Pan". After much study of the human mind, he devises an experiment that involves minor brain surgery. He performs this experiment on a young woman named Mary, but when she awakens she is terrified and mentally crippled.

Surprisingly Good Narration on a Classic Story!
Reviewed: 12-30-16
I'm a big fan of this story, and purchased this audiobook during one of the many Audible sales. When I first started listening to it, I thought that the narrator was going to be awful! I am very glad I persevered because boy was he awesome! He does excellent voices for the characters, and overall Shea Taylor blew me away with his performance. Don't hesitate to pick this one up!

I was pleasantly surprised at how good the narrator was. I really liked the voice he used for Dr. Hesselius, but didn't like the was he pronounced his name! It's a small quibble for such a good story. Don't hesitate to get this one if you like Le Fanu or classic horror stories!

Horrible narration
- By Anna on 06-18-15
I was looking forward to this one but...
Reviewed: 12-05-15
The narrator was horrible!!! As soon as she read the title for "The Beast With Five Fingers", I laughed. I could tell she was trying to be dramatic, but she tries to do it for almost every sentence. She draws out the ending of the words for dramatic effect, but it just ended up making me laugh. Not recommended.
