Story
In this fascinating deep dive into the evolution of monetary systems around the globe, Nik Bhatia takes us into the origins of how money has evolved to function in a “layered” manner. Using gold as an example of this term, he traces the layers of this ancient currency from raw mined material, to gold coins, and finally to bank-issued gold certificates. In a groundbreaking manner, Bhatia offers a similar paradigm for the evolution of digital currencies.

Great Book…except the obvious Bitcoin Bias
Reviewed: 02-12-23
It really is a great and informative look at the money system, and I am a fan of bitcoin, but the author is clearly a bitcoin maximalist and gravely biased in his view of bitcoin. For someone who has researched cryptocurrency and bitcoin myself, I heard very little if anything about the weaknesses and felt like the authors bias leads to some misinformation about bitcoin.

This book is kind of mean

Like another reviewer said, it’s really mean

Apparently can’t leave a review unless it’s 5 stars, really Audible! Starts off okay, then contradicts the entire story by shifting its tone towards aggressiveness and judgement toward the reader. Very distasteful and alienates readers. One reviewer said it’s really mean and it is sad that your book made them feel that way, but couldn’t agree more. Oh and if you have to ask for a review you probably didn’t earn it. Be careful what you wish for. I would rate this 3 overall 1 for performance and story, but Audible will probably only allow this with a higher rating as I’ve tried numerous times now. Guess Ill leave a more truthful review and ranking on a platform without a hidden agenda…

Story
Andrew Carnegie, an immigrant from Dunfermline, Scotland with only a grammar-school education, amassed a fortune in the steel industry the 1800’s to become the richest American in history. Yet Carnegie believed strongly that the wealthy should live modestly, without ostentation, and devote their energies after achieving wealth to finding ways to invest their “surplus wealth” in ways that benefit the public.

Great essay regarding wealth and how to use it. Now if only we’d learn and implement it…
