Story
Narrator Dan Stevens ( Downton Abbey) presents an uncanny performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel, an epic battle between man and monster at its greatest literary pitch. In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris, and horror.

One typo, and a boy and girl connect by chance. Wishing each other a happy Valentine’s Day isn’t the end. In fact, it becomes a friendly annual tradition—with rules: no pics, no real names, nothing too personal. As years pass, the rules for their email “dates” are breaking, and they’re sharing more than they imagined—including the urge to ask…what if we actually met?

Struggle to rate
Reviewed: 04-22-24
I am going to be honest. I really struggled to rate this book. I have gone back and forth on how I really feel about it.
Ultimately, I struggled to put it down so that usually gets extra stars for me. However, there were some parts I had a really hard time getting through.
I feel like there are enough other reviews out there that can point to some of the concerns of the book so I won’t rehash those out again.
Beware.

Story
F. Scott Fitzgerald’s classic American novel of the Roaring Twenties is beloved by generations of readers and stands as his crowning work. This new audio edition, authorized by the Fitzgerald estate, is narrated by Oscar-nominated actor Jake Gyllenhaal (Brokeback Mountain). Gyllenhaal's performance is a faithful delivery in the voice of Nick Carraway, the Midwesterner turned New York bond salesman, who rents a small house next door to the mysterious millionaire Jay Gatsby....

Overrated… won’t be reading or listening to again.
Reviewed: 01-07-24
I read this book in an effort to read some of the great "classics" I never took the time to read. To be honest, this book is just... overrated.
The story just kind of seemed dumb to me. You have a man who has overcome so much, and built his self up in a way that is unfathomable to most people. Then with all this wealth he decides to try to win the heart of a woman he lost 5 years ago. This is something I thought would really hold my attention. I love a good love story. However, the woman was married, and she made it clear she wasn't going to leave her husband, I think he should have just let her go at that point.
I don't know, it just didn't really hold my attention. I found myself the last few chapters just waiting for it to be done. I just found it to be boring. Not a lot happens most of the beginning of the book, then there was a bunch of death, and then not a whole lot happens. I won't be reading it again.

The Beast had Belle. Killian Black has me. How I got here doesn’t matter, even though he says it does. Says it was my choice. He doesn’t get it, though. It wasn’t ever a choice for me. And now, he’s changing the rules. The agreement was one month. For 30 days, I’d be his. He’s no longer satisfied with my body alone, though. He wants my soul, too. Wants every part of me. And even though I can pretend I’m safe when I lie beneath him, this man does something to me. Something wicked. A thing that will break me.

NOT ok
Reviewed: 12-28-23
I listened to this book on audible because it was free. It was not my favorite. The hero, Kill was a hypocritical rapist. It seemed to be played off because her body reacts to becoming aroused, that is common. Rape is rape. I think both of the characters could benefit from therapy. The female lead doesn't even seem to realize she is repeatedly being rapes. I am confused as to why there are so many good reviews for this book. I did find the narrators to be good. The story really needs some work. It really isn't ok the message it is trying to convey to readers.

She has spent her whole life paralyzed by the fantasy of Beau and her assumptions of Duane's disdain; therefore she's unprepared for the reality that is Duane's insatiable interest, as well as his hot hands and hot mouth and hotter looks. Not helping Jessica's muddled mind and good girl sensibilities, Duane seems to have gotten himself in trouble with the local biker gang, the Iron Order.

Men suck. They break you. Leave you. Take everything until there's nothing left. And frankly, I'm done allowing them to make me feel insignificant. So, forget men. I'll just throw myself into my job, because at least that never fails me. Jackson has other plans, though. I refuse to be impressed by his perfect body, the cute dimple on his cheek, or the rugged stubble on his face. Jackson Cole can be resisted. But, I'm only fooling myself. He's going to wear me down. I can feel it. In the end he'll prove that once again, I'm no one's beloved.

Story
Thirty days ago, my boss, Mr. Wolf of Wall Street, came to me with an offer I couldn't refuse: Sign my name on the dotted line and pretend to be his fiancée for one month. If I agreed, he would let me out of my employment contract with a "very generous" severance package. The rules were pretty simple: No intimate kissing, no actual sex. Just pretend to love each other for the press, even though I've secretly wanted to knock that sexy smirk off his face since the first day we met.

Great Narrators but predictable story
Reviewed: 12-19-19
First all I would like to say I loved listening to Sebastian York. He is probably my favorite narrators of all time. He makes it so much easier to listen to any story. The actually story was good. Predicable but good. I listened to it in one sitting while I was working on crafts. With being less than 3 hours I was expecting at times for the story to go deeper but then it didn't... it just simply moved on. I guess if you are looking for something quick to listen to this would be great for you.
