Fun Take on Adventuring

Great take on how adventuring works and many interesting monsters. Good natural progression of power and friendships. Fun but has enough blood to balance the serious undertones. Intriguing plot.

Series vs. Book...Beware
Reviewed: 03-21-25
This book was fun and an absolute joy, HOWEVER, if you plan on getting into this series I warn you to look at reviews of book 4 as you may become disappointed.
The series is interesting, but after having most of the last book (4) consist of Stat blocks for whole chapters, and make questionable decisions as a healer, I don't think I'll continue this series.
Keep this in mind if you choose to delve into these books. I hope this helps anyone applicable.

Story
After resolving all the pending SPECIAL Quests that had been plaguing him, Thaden is finally ready to evolve his Class, where he can then continue to Level-up past his current limit. Unfortunately, his current Evolution Assignment is proving to be a bit more difficult than his last one, as it requires him to complete one of the new Intermediate dungeons with a full Raid Party of at least 100 people without any casualties. Throwing money at the problem might’ve worked in the past, but now there’s a complication that makes such a prospect nearly impossible.

Stats, Stats, Stats
Reviewed: 03-21-25
Overall I quite enjoy this series, however, I find myself often spacing out and having to skip even whole chapters due to the stats taking up so much of the story. It detracts from how epic some of the fights are and loses the build up.
I like the plot, but wish the stats were summarized instead of charted into oblivion, it feels like 1/3 of the book, if not more.

Love this series. Many questions answered in this one. I just don't get why it seems like this series is getting put on the back burner. it's too good to not get the conclusion it deserves.

Doesn't disappoint
Reviewed: 08-13-23
Sometimes, I find that I love a book series for the first two, and then it starts to become too repetitive or not engaging enough. This book does not have any of these issues. It is as engaging start to finish as the previous books.
I particularly enjoy that the author is not afraid to kill off powerful characters while also introducing new characters that we can easily empathize with.
I highly recommend this series and the narrator.

Fantastic story with a very realistic setting and progression rate. Everything makes sense and is whimsically written. It is one of the best sword and fantasy books I've read in a long time. The narration is top-notch as well.

Story
The ancient magic of wizards was anything but dark. It was the enlightenment that lifted humanity from the squalor of superstition, and the worship of fell spirits and capricious gods, but those days are gone. The shining glory of the sorcerers burned away the subtlety of wisdom, replacing it with easy power, held only in the hands of the elite - a new age built upon the elemental supremacy of aristocrats and the ignorance of the masses.

Enraptured entirely

Narrator is excellent all throughout. The story is believable and has a very easy way of letting you learn the rules of magic along with the character.
My favorite thing about this book is that the main character actually has to struggle to learn things and makes realistic mistakes. Never dull, definitely continuing the series.

I'm afraid of everything falling apart, but it looks like it already has.

Frustrating Spoilers

I hate how overpowered some of this is, it doesn't make sense..a guardian bond can be cast in all of 30 seconds and not be consensual...dumb ho can completely control everyone's shadows... I genuinely haven't seen a benefit to having them for anyone other than her and "daddy" in this entire series.
I really hoped it would've wrapped up here...but no. gotta have a whole nother book about an OP star rock and whoever gets it wins. probably the fix to all of Roxys problems.
