About this listen

Thaden is built for running dungeons solo, but in order to progress past his current Level, he’s going to have to find some friends rather quickly…

After resolving all the pending SPECIAL Quests that had been plaguing him, Thaden is finally ready to evolve his Class, where he can then continue to Level-up past his current limit. Unfortunately, his current Evolution Assignment is proving to be a bit more difficult than his last one, as it requires him to complete one of the new Intermediate dungeons with a full Raid Party of at least 100 people without any casualties. Throwing money at the problem might’ve worked in the past, but now there’s a complication that makes such a prospect nearly impossible.

The rise of the Contender Guilds.

Thaden has had his run-ins with the Guilds in the past, of course, but while he had been away for a while, the Assimilation System has embraced these Guilds and incorporated them into its mechanics, legitimizing them past the relatively loose groups of Contenders they were before and making them official organizations – with specific Quests to go along with them. With Guild Quests including the completion of Intermediate dungeons and a Ranking system with ongoing awards, the competition is fierce – and no one is willing to risk their Ranking by taking someone not affiliated with their Guild along.

With these obstacles in place, Thaden struggles to find a Guild willing to accept him as a member, even if only temporarily. This is proving harder than it should be, as while his Class is undoubtedly powerful, information about it and the detrimental drawbacks it enforces on any party he participates in is now widely known.

Will he be able to find a Guild inclined to giving him a chance, or will this unaffiliated healer be stuck at his current Level, unable to progress any further?

The bridge to an up open world

This is a bridge snow to an open world. People know him and he's not so much afraid of people anymore, but he does recognize his deficiencies. We get to see a new side and regarding the system. Is it the good guy, or is it the bad guy? And what is Nana, in the terms of the systems use? Or the use by the enemy

Really good.

I know some like it, and I don’t mind it much, but an awful lot of time is spent repeating the same spells and titles the character has every time it’s mentioned. But i can skip through that a bit and get to the good stuff. 😁

Another amazing story.

I have listened to pretty much every one of his books and loved them this one is no exception. Was excited for the continuation of Theden’s story and really enjoyed it. Spoilers maybe I liked how he joined the gilded glory and made friends but was super shocked at what happened at the party and hope he is able to resurrect them.

Stats, Stats, Stats

Overall I quite enjoy this series, however, I find myself often spacing out and having to skip even whole chapters due to the stats taking up so much of the story. It detracts from how epic some of the fights are and loses the build up.

I like the plot, but wish the stats were summarized instead of charted into oblivion, it feels like 1/3 of the book, if not more.

it was amazing and always kept me on the edge wanting more!

This series has truly become one of my all-time favorites. As someone who isn’t much of a reader, I found myself thoroughly captivated by the journey and the myriad struggles the protagonist Theden faced. The depth of the story alongside its emotional highs and lows made for an engaging experience.

One of the highlights for me was the statistical analysis woven throughout the narrative. However, I must admit I found the incessant repetition of each stat somewhat tedious. While I appreciate the detail, I would much prefer Theden's concise summaries of gains and efforts instead of the repetitive system recitations. It would be more enjoyable if the information were streamlined; I wouldn’t mind hearing the stats once when he first examines them, but a succinct summary afterward would be far more effective. There were moments when I felt compelled to skip through several minutes of content just to bypass what I had already absorbed, especially during the sections detailing his resistance stats for everything equipped in his slots.

To enhance the experience, it would be helpful if they focused solely on the title of each spell without diving into the lengthy descriptions of their effects. Alternatively, discussing only the spells he’s swapped out would suffice, as we are already familiar with what he previously used. Hearing five minutes of repeated descriptions became quite unnecessary.

When it comes to receiving rewards, I really appreciate the "recalculating" feature, but I believe it could be presented more effectively. It would be preferable to hear it stated once, illustrated with examples of gains: "Killed (Monsters) --> PCI 150 --> Recalculating Title: Unkillable 1 --> PCI 450 --> Recalculating Unkillable 2 --> PCI 675 --> Recalculating One-Man Army --> PCI 1350 --> Class Modifiers PCI 2700." Instead of enumerating all four upgrades separately, a more streamlined approach could be, "Killed (Monsters) --> PCI 150, Recalculating Unkillable 1-2, One-Man Army. Class Modifiers rewards have increased to PCI 2700." This change would maintain the immersion during intense moments, preventing interruptions that could take me out of the experience.

On another note, I absolutely loved the addition of his helper. I understand the decision to keep the companion from assisting with bodily needs, but I hope that at some point, he’ll grant her a humanoid appearance, as the squirrel joke has begun to feel a bit stale. As for Corrina, she’s such a delightful character! I genuinely hope the story will delve deeper into their relationship as it unfolds, and I’m eager to see how their bond develops in the future.

Fun

Thaden is back and stronger than ever. Unfortunately his class makes him unwanted by guilds. He still needs to do his advancement quest so he goes to the Gilded Glory Guild with a lucrative offer. They love it and he begins running raids with them. He discovers that one of the dungeons they run is a nest of the Adversary and no one will believe him. Before he can enact plans to resolve it, the Adversary attacks. By the skin of his teeth, Thaden wins, but he learns that the world and the System may not be what it seems.

A great installment. Wonderful narrator. Excellent pacing. Steady world with some character growth. Please enjoy
