Story
Sir John Penlyon is planning to spend Christmas at his estate with his niece and his friend Danby, the closest thing he has to family since disowning his daughter years ago. (She eloped with the parson, who was, of course, penniless.) Danby suggests that at Christmastime the estate needs the presence of small children, and offers to find some - the “hirelings” - despite Sir John’s skepticism. Three children duly arrive, and the youngest, precocious four year-old Moppet, quickly endears herself to Sir John.

An English family had its fair share of hardships to be reconciled. The resolutions were rather predictable. A light story such as this one brings comfort and joy in the simplest sense.

Vice Present Pence’s daughter and wife wrote about their bunny, Marlon Bundo. This Is NOT that book.
John Oliver and staff put a satirical twist on the book originally published by the Pence family. Narratated by celebrity voice, this is worth the seven minutes. Laugh and learn. #UnlikelyHeroes #Funny #Satire #Quirky #America #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

Story
Some families are created in different ways but are still, in every way, a family. Writer and star of My Big Fat Greek Wedding Nia Vardalos firmly believed she was supposed to be a mom, but Mother Nature and modern medicine had put her in a headlock. So she made a choice that shocked friends, family, and even herself: with only 14 hours' notice, she adopted a preschooler.

Story
The young poet Stephen has been recalled from Paris to Dublin to be at his mother’s deathbed. But he refuses her dying wishes: to kneel and pray for her. Now, holed up in his Martello tower outside the city walls, he has to suffer the taunts of Buck Mulligan by day and, by night, the vision of ‘her eyes, shaking out of death to shake and bend my soul.’ Timelessly evocative, Ulysses is far more than the story of Stephen Dedalus’ journey through Dublin.

Story
My Man Jeeves, first published in 1919, introduced the world to affable, indolent Bertie Wooster and his precise, capable valet, Jeeves. Some of the finest examples of humorous writing found in English literature are woven around the relationship between these two men of very different classes and temperaments. Where Bertie is impetuous and feeble, Jeeves is coolheaded and poised.

The narrator, Christina Moore, did an excellent interpretation of the emotions described in this epistolary account. The twists & turns in a teenager's lfe can be stressful. Being alert to their needs & actions is critical. Addiction, at any age, is a constant battle. Sober individuals would benefit from reading GO ASK ALICE to gain insight into the unknown. Learning a little empathy could save a life. #Addiction #Comingofage #Tearjerker #Epistolary #FemaleProtagonist #Tagsgiving #Sweepstakes

Crude humor
Reviewed: 01-01-16
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, I would recommend this book to friends. Carrie Fisher is down to earth and appreciative of the small things. If you can tolerate curse words, her humor is uplifting.
What other book might you compare Wishful Drinking to and why?
I have not read a memoir quite like Wishful Drinking. I find it hard to compare. This was the first book I read by Carrie Fisher but I would like to read her other works.
Which character – as performed by Carrie Fisher – was your favorite?
This question does not apply to this particular book. Although, Carrie Fisher does a funny impression of her mother.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
YES!
Any additional comments?
Carrie Fisher is someone I would like to meet for a casual conversation. I could see us sitting back and talking about nothing in particular. I think she'd be a hoot.

Story
At first glance, Josh Hanagarne seems an improbable librarian. He stands 6'7", competes in strongman contests, and was diagnosed in high school with Tourette's syndrome. But books are his first love - Josh's earliest memories involve fantastic adventures between the pages of Gulliver’s Travels and a passionate infatuation with Fern from Charlotte’s Web. Everything in Josh’s life - from his Mormon upbringing, to finally finding love, to learning to control his tics through lifting - circles back to a close connection with books.

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
Yes, the narrator had a pleasant voice that did not detract from the story. This was a book I looked forward to reading at every opportunity & hated having to pause.
Would you be willing to try another book from Josh Hanagarne? Why or why not?
Yes, he is well read and has a great vocabulary.
Did the narration match the pace of the story?
Yes, I thought so.
If this book were a movie would you go see it?
No. I liked the way it played out n my imagination even though it was baded on real events.
Any additional comments?
Josh H. was diagnosed with Tourette’s in his youth. I felt I should know more about Tourette’s given my training as a nurse. I have always worked in the Ob/gyn area and never encountered a patient with Tourette’s. Josh’s candid explanation from the patient’s perspective was enlightening. I am not an expert, but I think the odds of embarrassing myself if I encountered a Tourette’s patient are much lower. Reading about his faith and growing up as a Mormon added to my interest. I cannot deny I had preconceived notions about the Mormon faith. I learned a lot from Josh’s narrative. He was not preachy, he simply explained the Mormon premise and how they act on it.
Josh’s lifetime love of books was easy for me to understand. As he became a librarian I felt a pang of jealousy. I would love to be around books all day and get paid for it. I know I do not make use of the local library nearly as much as I should. I spend way too much on books when I could be going to library. Librarians are underappreciated.
I can understand if the reasons I found this book interesting may not appeal to others. Perhaps there is some other element that will make others like it for different reasons.

This was the first book I read by Henry James. I wasn't blown away but I liked it. The mix of American & British characters drew me in to the story. The timeframe was never really established. I would have liked to have known more about that to get a better sense of the placement.
