Publisher's summary

In Wishful Drinking, Carrie Fisher tells the true and intoxicating story of her life with inimitable wit. Born to celebrity parents, she was picked to play a princess in a little movie called Star Wars when only 19 years old. "But it isn't all sweetness and light sabers."

Alas, aside from a demanding career and her role as a single mother (not to mention the hyperspace hairdo), Carrie also spends her free time battling addiction, weathering the wild ride of manic depression and lounging around various mental institutions. It's an incredible tale - from having Elizabeth Taylor as a stepmother, to marrying (and divorcing) Paul Simon, from having the father of her daughter leave her for a man, to ultimately waking up one morning and finding a friend dead beside her in bed.

Hilarious

Carrie Fisher is so much more than a Star Wars Princess. She is a mother, a daughter and a sister that grew up in the spotlight of fame from famous parents and with an illness she didn't know she had. She's also really funny and openly honest about her addictions and mental illness. Wishful Drinking shows a side of the author/actress that most fans never knew about. It shows how strong and brave she was to fight her inner demons and try to see the bright side of her illness. This book is a great listen for fans of the actress and for others like her that are fighting mental illness and addictions.

Self awareness & sarcasm all over the place.

Carry was born in a golden cradle but rapidly turned into "one of us", sarcastic son of the #%@& .

Carrie, you've done it again!

You're a delight to listen to! So candid and full of whimsy. I love your views of reality, old and new. Your history lessons in celebrity inbreeding and insider scoop on how life is surrounded by fame, including yourself, was intriguing. My mind's a twitter!

Fun but she shouldn't have read it

I found the book a lot of fun. It probably doesn't touch on as much Star Wars tidbits as some may hope for (with cover art like that.

Like many books by celebrities there is a fair amount of name dropping and ego stroking yes, but I don't think she's as deliberate as some other reviewers have said. I do agree though her narration can be overwrought and annoying at times, especially when she raises her voice. Perhaps it would have been wise to have found someone who knows her sensibilities to have narrated instead.

What a wonderful mess

I knew I liked Carrie Fisher for a reason. This is the first novel I have of hers and I love it. She spills the t on all the good stuff and she was there, I am so jealous. Anyway if you like to listen to someone dish about all the celebs, get this book.

I'm the crazy lady laughing at the gym!

This audiobook "reads" like catching up with an old friend! I have been listening to it while at the gym, and it has caused me to laugh, not chuckle, laugh out loud a few times.
