Could have been great…

A monster thriller with a lot of potential. Unfortunately, all that potential remained unrealized. Several of the characters came off as corny and unrealistic. For example, if you saw your friend of many years, get torn apart by a Sasquatch, would your next move me to make a dumb pun. This happens repeatedly.
I don’t think it was fair for the narrator either she tried her best. Her narration did not do the story any favors. Would not recommend to any male readers who have ever actually handled a firearm before. You can tell the story was written by someone who has read about firearms, but most likely never held one.
Finally, the female protagonist is not the most likable character. I’m pretty sure she only wanted to kill the Sasquatch because he was male if you get my meaning.

Possibly the worst

You will have to suspend your disbelief to enjoy zombies rising from the dead. However, you would have to lose your mind to believe that a far left Chicago liberal who can’t benchpress 95 pounds, doesn’t know the first thing about firearms, hates police officers, and the military becomes the savior of the world.
This story has one of the most unlikable protagonists of any audiobook I have ever listened to. He is utterly incompetent and has to be repeatedly saved by other people. Including the law enforcement and military members he hates.
If you are interested in listening to the story of how Jack takes his soy infused body to the gym to try to recover the last remaining bits of his testosterone only to find out that his workout is interrupted by a zombie apocalypse, then to go save the world through no fault of his own please have a listen.

An apocalypse of boredom
Reviewed: 12-17-23
The story of a 19 year old Mary Sue who doesn’t do much after a largely unexplained apocalypse. There were a few tense moments over three books, however the story was day to day monotony of the main characters. These books are the Seinfeld of the survival genre. Skip this one and find something better.

Story
It began on New Year’s Eve. The sickness came on suddenly, and spread quickly. The fear spread even faster. Within weeks, everything people counted on began to fail them. The electrical grid sputtered; law and government collapsed - and more than half of the world’s population was decimated. Where there had been order, there was now chaos. And as the power of science and technology receded, magick rose up in its place.

The story of a collection of soft liberals (some with magic powers, some without) trying to survive a killer cold and mean people. Never missing an opportunity to say how much they dislike guns but never go anywhere without one???
Long stretches of nothing happening in the middle of the book, For example there is nearly an hour dedicated to the serious problem of who took extra snacks and turned the thermostat up a little.
Finally, the narrator was dull. Maybe it was blessing in disguise to distract from the boring story. I really feel like the concept was great and it was a missed opportunity to something cool.

The story is long and drawn out. There is little pay off at the end after suffering through what story there is. The performance isn’t terrible, but nowhere near my favorite audible reading. I only finished because I don’t like having unfinished books in my library.
