Story
In the house of Helios, god of the sun and mightiest of the Titans, a daughter is born. But Circe is a strange child—not powerful, like her father, nor viciously alluring like her mother. Turning to the world of mortals for companionship, she discovers that she does possess power—the power of witchcraft, which can transform rivals into monsters and menace the gods themselves.

I enjoy reading new takes on side characters from mythology. This sat in my tbr for too long, but I’m so glad i got around to listening. If you liked this story and enjoy Norse mythology “the witch’s heart” is a similar type of story that I gave 5 stars.

Story
Nineteen-year-old Signa Farrow, orphaned as a baby, has been raised by a string of guardians, each more interested in her wealth than her well-being—and each has met an untimely end. Her last remaining relatives are the Hawthornes, an eccentric family living at the glittering and gloomy estate of Thorn Grove. Thorn Grove’s patriarch, Elijah, mourns his late wife, Lillian, through wild parties and drink, while eldest son Percy grapples for control of the family’s waning reputation and daughter Blythe suffers from the same mysterious illness that killed her mother.

Could not care less….
Reviewed: 03-08-23
Multiple times in the book the phrase “could care less” is used…. It should be “couldn’t care less” as in “they could not possibly care less than they do right now” the way it’s written means the person could possibly care less, which means in some way they do in fact care…..

Story
The beloved King Ik is dead, and there was barely time to check his pulse before the royal throne was supporting the suspiciously shapely backside of an impostor pretending to be Ik's beautiful, long-lost daughter. With the land's heroic hunks busy drooling all over themselves, there's only one man left who can save the kingdom of Jenair. His name is Dungar Loloth, a rural blacksmith turned innkeeper, a surly hermit, and an all-around nobody oozing toward middle age, compensating for a lack of height, looks, charm, and tact with guts and an attitude.

Good, wouldn’t recommend.

So, overall the story was good. It helped a lot that this was an audiobook, if I had to physically read it, I wouldn’t have made it far. Most of the characters are fun, and the story is light and campy, but the beginning started slow, and I would have stopped reading around chapter 20. Around that time they hit the all female village, and I feel most of what was said/happened was unnecessary. There’s a lot of “poke fun at yourself” jokes and comments in the book, but chapters like 20-23 or thereabouts were so bad, I stopped the book to come read the reviews. I pushed through and finished that section and the rest of the book was back to the same silliness, so I enjoyed it enough.
Overall, it was ok I would not buy any sequels, however I would possibly listen if they were free and I was out of other options, but would recommend editing the all female village down quite a bit, or remove it entirely, because except for gaining two new party members, it doesn’t add anything, and honestly detracts from the story.

Story
They came after the Diseray. Some were terrors ripped from our collective imaginations, remnants of every mythology across the world. And some were like nothing anyone had ever dreamed up, even in their worst nightmares. Now, the luckiest Cits live in enclosed communities, behind walls that keep them safe from the hideous monsters fighting to break through.

The narrator……
Reviewed: 04-27-22
The story is a little predictable but still very enjoyable. The narrator however… it sounded like I was being read to by “Siri” or “Alexa”. The cadence of the sentences were off at times, and because all of the speech was monotone and robotic, I couldn’t tell if the mispronunciations were supposed to add character to the story (as if the actual words were unfamiliar in this time and place) or were simply another aspect of bad narrating.

Loved everything except....
Reviewed: 07-24-21
This was a great conclusion to the story, my only minor complaint is the little gasp that the narrator seemed to make quite frequently in this installment. I didn’t notice it in any other books, but this one felt near constant. Once or twice it felt like part of the story but otherwise just distracting and somewhat annoying.

The way the narrator says “ether” is grating. But overall it’s an enjoyable listen. Could do with less sex, it’s annoying having to skip over it every few minutes, but again, otherwise a very good story.

There’s more to the swamplands than meets the teeth. In this supernatural tale of magic and mysticism, Henry Lemarchand grew up in Philadelphia knowing very little of his family—his father disappeared when he was young, leaving behind only a strange pouch of animal teeth. When he is sent to the Louisiana bayou to spend the summer with his eccentric uncle and cousin in their decaying ancestral mansion, Henry learns about his family’s supernatural legacy.
