Story
As one of the few witches in Britain, Mika Moon knows she has to hide her magic, keep her head down, and stay away from other witches so their powers don’t mingle and draw attention. And as an orphan who lost her parents at a young age and was raised by strangers, she’s used to being alone and she follows the rules...with one exception: an online account, where she posts videos "pretending" to be a witch. She thinks no one will take it seriously.

A story of love, family and where we unexpectedly find both of those things.
Reviewed: 10-19-24
I could not stop listening, I just needed to know where the characters were taking me. I rooted for love, I hoped for togetherness and I worried it would all fall apart because people are hard to trust. Themes of what it means to be family, fear of the world finding out you are different and yes, acceptance on so many levels are present here. The narrator was perfect for the job; soothing me into remaining calm when I wanted to jump in change the twists, she brought me back to my seat and convinced me it would be worth the patience. If you grew up in a loving, nurturing, "normal" home maybe this won't means so much to you however, it meant so much to me and I know it will resonate with many others

Riley is so confident and kind, and she and Valerie bond quickly over existing as multiracial teens in a very white Christian community. As Valerie explores her feelings for Riley, she begins to see that the world she knows is a carefully crafted narrative. Publicly, the girls are close friends—holding hands in prayer, rooming together at a conference. Privately, they grasp at any chance to continue their forbidden romance—until they are found out. Now, Valerie must choose between staying with a family she fears will never accept her, or running away with the girl she loves.

I was anxious to get this book the minute it came out and I am not disappointed. Yes, there were times I wanted to escape the memories of my own experience knowing she was telling the hard truths. I love the themes of questioning, honoring trauma and still acknowledging others trauma as well. Thank you for a happy, if not completely resolved ending.

Story
There is a voice of longing inside each woman. We strive so mightily to be good: good partners, daughters, mothers, employees, and friends. We hope all this striving will make us feel alive. Instead, it leaves us feeling weary, stuck, overwhelmed, and underwhelmed. We look at our lives and wonder: Wasn’t it all supposed to be more beautiful than this? We quickly silence that question, telling ourselves to be grateful, hiding our discontent—even from ourselves.

There is nothing and everything about our lives that are the same but, she knew my heart and soul. I am a better person, woman and human for having heard this book. Thank you.

Story
Work and family, individuality and motherhood, the creative life and family life - women are told constantly that they can’t have it all. One Beautiful Dream is the deeply personal, often humorous tale of what happened when one woman dared to believe that you can have it all - if you’re willing to reimagine what having it all looks like. Jennifer Fulwiler is the last person you might expect to be the mother of six young children. First of all, she’s an introvert only child, self-described workaholic, and former atheist who never intended to have a family.
