Interesting ride into the volcano lair...

This was a ride into subverting expectations and throwing twists worthy of a Bond movie, with a lot of parody and tongue-in-cheek humor. Most of it works pretty well, and some of it might have you scratching your head. Apparently, the Author had COVID while writing this and it messed with his brain a little. I can't say if that's a detriment or not because I enjoyed the book. There are some really funny scenes in here, that I think make it worth the read or listen.

Story
When COVID-19 sweeps through New York City, Jamie Gray is stuck as a dead-end driver for food-delivery apps. That is, until Jamie makes a delivery to an old acquaintance, Tom, who works at what he calls “an animal rights organization”. Tom’s team needs a last-minute grunt to handle things on their next field visit. Jamie, eager to do anything, immediately signs on. What Tom doesn't tell Jamie is that the animals his team cares for are not here on Earth. Not our Earth, at at least. In an alternate dimension, dinosaur-like creatures named Kaiju roam a warm and human-free world.

It's just a fun story. Trapped within the confines of the pandemic, it may date itself, but anyone who lived through the pandemic will understand what the author is intending. Just sit back and listen to a giant nerd tell a giant nerd story to what I can only assume is a giant nerd audience. Enjoy!

Story
In the absolutely packed Act II, the dark fantasy resumes and the Sandman expands into the French Revolution, ancient Rome, 19th-century San Francisco, eighth-century Baghdad, and beyond. New and familiar characters abound, voiced by a bright mix of performers, including Kat Dennings, Regé-Jean Page, Emma Corrin, Michael Sheen, Kristen Schaal, Brian Cox, John Lithgow, Jeffrey Wright, and so many more, including fan-favorite narrators Simon Vance and Ray Porter.

Not as strong as Act 1, but Good.
Reviewed: 06-03-22
Some of the stories in Act 2 lack the strength of Act 1 and feel to quickly and easily resolved. You can think of it as misdirections to keep stories fresh, and most of them work. The Emperor or America is an example of it working well. Overall, it's still a great read or listen.

The End of Psychomech
Reviewed: 05-20-22
The final installment of the Psychomech Trilogy. It ends as strangely as it ran and with odd twists and turns with a signature of Lumley's finales. I will not ruin the book, but simply point out the wink and nod to another series hidden in it's ending. If you are listening for it.
Personally, this is my favorite series, and although this isn't better than the first book, I read it and felt satisfied.

Story
Eighteen-year-old Aidan Salt isn't a superhero. With his powerful (and unpredictable) telekinetic abilities, he could be one if he wanted to, but he doesn't. He's unambitious, selfish, and cowardly, and he doesn't want to have to deal with all the paperwork required to become a professional superhero. But since the money, fame, and women that come with wearing the cape are appealing, he decides to become the first supervillain the world has seen in more than 20 years: Apex Strike.

Decent book and story.
Reviewed: 09-25-21
I like the idea of a supervillain team and how the story plays out, but often it felt too juvenile and characters too dumb. A lot of the turns are sudden and without warning, but after a while, it feels cheapened by how predictable it becomes. Overall it's still an interesting story.

This audio series has a star filled cast, including the late Christopher Lee, with great acting and more than enough spirit. James MacAvoy I'd a wonderful job as Richard Mayhew. I highly recommend.

I don't want to sound like a fanboy, but I got chills. I'm not a fan of James McAvoy (sue me), and I thoroughly enjoyed his performance. I especially loved Kat Dennings as Death. She needs to do more voicework. I recommend this to anyone who loved the comics, loved gothic horror, or reads books, like Good Omens, or Neverwhere.

Rated "Number One in Customer Satisfaction" for three years running, no claim is too big or too weird for Tom Stranger to handle.

Larry Correia's ego stroking is too embarrassing.
Reviewed: 06-23-20
Let me star out here, just to hand waive Larry's "My works are awesome, but the libs" Conspiracy Theory:
1. I love Adam Baldwin. He's literally, the only reason I gave this a try.
2. I'm a independent, so don't give me the libs vs cons arguement, because I'm neither.
3. The writing on this is trying to be clever, funny, and nostalgic all at the same time, but it's mental masturbation for Larry Correia, who literally inserts himself into the Story for no other reason than to stroke his own ego. The entire story is FAN FICTION, and embarrassing FAN FICTION at that. It never succeeds in being anything it sets out to be, unless Larry only did this to humiliate Adam Baldwin... Which it does. He tries to hard to be entertaining, but a bad story is a bad story.
In conclusion: Don't hurt your brain with this. I got this book for free and I still want my money back.

Make sure the kids aren’t around! Just because you’re a grown-up doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the art of the children’s bedtime story. Nick Offerman presents this collection of 12 short stories written in the style of a classic kids' tale, but with a decidedly dark and adult approach. What really happened after Snow White died, from the perspective of the one medically trained dwarf? A naive wizard professor reports back from the trenches of an underprivileged school of magic. And much more!

Narrator is excellent as always, but the story is slightly weaker than the previous two. This was to set up the series as it seems Lumley was repairing to make this and long-term series by this point. The issue with the story is that nothing was unexpected. All telegraphed without surprises. still it's enjoyable enough to not hurt the overall story and continue the series.
