Story
Alejandra is a survivor. So far, she's lived through abduction, a near drowning, and being lost in an alien forest. She thought things were finally starting to go her way when the most intense, grumpy, and insanely tempting man she's ever seen rescues her from a monster. But sadly, that's just when everything gets even more complicated. Auzed has his orders. He is to find the missing human and deliver her to Tremanta. Getting caught trespassing in Sauven territory was not part of the plan. Neither was pretending to be the sexy beauty's fiancé.

Stephen’s voice could melt the Arctic
Reviewed: 11-13-24
These stories are great. The characters develop in a believable way. They have real reasons for when they act in stupid ways. Their feelings are sound. But Stephen’s voice is so well modulated when he growled I felt it. Highly recommend using earbuds.

Starting to get preachy
Reviewed: 06-17-24
These are good characters. Strong women when women weren’t allowed to control their own lives. But half way through this book got preachy. Reading the Bible attributing everything good to god.

Story
The Marquess of Winterbourne has long been guided by his Rules of the Rogue, but as spy for the Crown, his next mission will break every single one. Sent to the wilds of Cornwall to beguile secrets from a lady, the last thing this rogue expects is to unearth his own buried heart. Miss Tamsyn Penrose remains far from impressed by London scoundrel Lord Winterbourne, preferring a wild gallop over the moors to sinful lips and fulsome flattery. But as danger lurks and her prejudice ebbs, she uncovers a man of contradictions, a man who awakens her forgotten fire.

Incredibly incompetent cops
Reviewed: 02-07-24
By time you get this far in the series the cops’ incompetence becomes legitimately irritating. I know cops like this but I also know cops who are better at their jobs than these guys.

Born in the slums of Five Points, Emmett Cavanaugh climbed his way to the top of a booming steel empire and now holds court in an opulent Fifth Avenue mansion. His rise in stations, however, has done little to elevate his taste in women. He loathes the city's "high society" types, but a rebellious and beautiful blue-blood just might change all that.

Narrator ruined this
Reviewed: 09-19-23
I hate to trash a woman’s work but she needs to learn voice acting. The characters sounded so much alike I lost track of who was speaking. On the occasion she did adopt another accent it lingered onto the next character. Multiple mispronounced words “inscrooshable?” The story is pretty good, decent plot made into an actual struggle to listen to.

Careless performance and editing
Reviewed: 07-12-23
The story lines are complex and compelling. The characters can be so sexist and awful (but it was 1819 so what do I expect). But this book has multiple errors where “alternate” readings remain in the text, characters’ names are gotten wrong several times. It’s just careless and a shame.

Odd disconnect
Reviewed: 11-17-22
First, Lily’s complete transformation is unbelievable. Someone isn’t nasty for 50 years then completely becomes sweet as pie. Second is Clayton. They should have said he was special needs or something. They insist he’s 9. But his behavior is like that of a 5 year old!! A 9 year old putting up his arms to be picked up over a baby gate? Please. Afraid of a fiberglass dinosaur? C’mon. At 9? It would have been better to go back & change everything where it said 9 years distance to 5.
Performance wise Lily’s voice is perfect but inconsistent. But all too often Georgias voice sounded exactly like Lily’s. Georgia is not supposed to sound snooty. But there it is, nasal snooty. It’s all inconsistent.

Story
Thirty-nine was a fantastic year. I was married to the man I loved. I had a body that worked without creaking. My grandma, who raised me, was still healthy, and life was pretty damned good. But as they say, all good things come to an end. One year later, I’m a widow. My joints are starting to ache. Gram is in the nursing home, and dead people think my home is some kind of supernatural bed-and-breakfast. Gluing body parts onto semi-transparent people has become a side job - deceased people I’m not even sure are actually there.

Voice actor is wonderful
Reviewed: 09-11-22
The story is cute, light w plenty of twists and turns. The main character’s tendency toward obtuseness and assumptions gets a bit wearing. But it’s enough to know that the writing & voice acting kept me far enough in the story to blame the character.

Listed as YA I was expecting something light w a shallow lead. I was delightfully surprised. Complex characters. Very imaginative world. Sometimes the characters teenage decisions are annoying. But they are characteristic of teens! Ended up with the entire series & the book of novellas! Thoroughly enjoyed the escape.

The king is missing, a secret organization is hunting sorcerers, and the capital is more vulnerable than ever to enemy attack. Worst of all, at least from Ridge's point of view, someone put that jackass Colonel Therrik in charge of the flier battalion.

It’s a good thing the plot and characters kept me engaged because by this point the performers inflections started to get annoying. While the differing voices were very helpful in keeping the plot line straight Sardelles voice got annoying.
