Detailed and Instructional

Very in depth solutions for couples to overcome their problems. If both people are willing to put in the effort and do what he recommends then I could see things really improving. It is a lot of work though, as outlined in this book.

Story
Author Vitale Buford spent nearly three decades of her life in the web of perfection. She was praised for being an "easy child", "pretty", and "self-motivated", so that's what she tried to be. Her need for perfection and outside success was coupled with her body-image obsession. It was also a distraction from the pain of abandonment and loneliness she experienced in her childhood. When she tied her self-worth to her external success and her appearance, her addiction to perfection was born.

It's Like Reading My Journals

I wondered if I had a twin out there or something. The way she thinks and her general thought process, although a tad on the spoiled, narcissistic sude, was like the exact way I think. Great story. Can relate to it 100%

Story
Healing the Shame That Binds You is the most enduring work of family relationship expert and New York Times best-selling author John Bradshaw. In it, he shows how unhealthy toxic shame, often learned young and maintained into adulthood, is the core component in our compulsions, co-dependencies, addictions and drive to superachieve.

Identify the Shameful
Reviewed: 06-10-21
Bradshaw gives a detailed analysis of where shame comes from and how it can get stuck inside of you. He then goes on to suggest how to go about ridding it and deepening your sense of self hood through finally finding God or a higher power. I'd rather he kept God out of it bc it seems like a crutch when real people need real help and answers. My only concern, but otherwise a great read.

Thorough and Tough, but a solution!
Reviewed: 08-07-20
My mind couldn't leave the painful spot it was stuck on for a week until I took a stab at completing some of the relationship inventory suggest here. I wrote and wrote until my hand was sore, but I was finally able to unearth answers that allowed my denial to at least shift to anger. it's a start. very thoroughly done. it felt like she knew my ex s characteristics with knowing nothing of him. must be a common type who dumps you suddenly and then says it's your fault for making him feel like were always so good and me so bad.

Nothing I Didn't Know Already

A wealth of information covering every break up scenario possible but not necessarily divulging anything that I didn't already know. Reinforcing the basics of post break up etiquette focused on not stalking or harrassing your ex or how to behave if you have to be around them.
