Did not finish
Reviewed: 01-02-25
First off I wanna state that I love my spice but I prefer to have an actual story with the spice sprinkled in at just the right time. This story would actually be pretty good if the couple’s relationship wasn’t so ridiculous. The amount of spicy scenes took away from the actual plot and their relationship as a whole began to be so unrealistic given their characters. I really would have liked to know what was happening in the story but got so sick of the couple I couldn’t finish the book. The narrator did an excellent job though.

Story
Venesa Andersen has never been good. She wasn't good enough for her parents, and she isn't good enough for the gangster uncle who took her in after they died. But she's cunning. Beautiful. Dutiful to her uncle's demands. And she doesn't have time for a moral compass, anyway. When her runaway cousin returns to their coastal southern town, she brings a man with her . . . and Venesa soon realizes he's the only one who's ever seen her for her. There's just one problem: she can never have him.

Interesting retelling

The narrators did an excellent job with the different accents. The story was pretty interesting with some twists I saw coming and others I didn’t. I enjoyed how the whole series played off the names and themes of different fairy tales at times but didn’t actually have anything to do with the original stories. I would definitely recommend the series.

Interesting retelling

Really didn’t have much to do with the original story of Peterpan other than the names and a couple small details, which is completely fine. It was an interesting retelling. The narrators did a decent job. It was definitely a more mature subject matter with darker themes but nothing too bad. A good start for those interested in getting into dark romance.

Story
I have never been favored by the gods. Far from it, thanks to Zeus. Living as a cursed office clerk for the Order of Thieves, I just keep my head down and hope the capricious beings who rule from Olympus won’t notice me. Not an easy feat, given San Francisco is Zeus’ patron city, but I make do. I survive. Until the night I tangle with a different god. The worst god. Hades. For the first time ever, the ruthless, mercurial King of the Underworld has entered the Crucible—the deadly contest the gods hold to determine a new ruler to sit on the throne of Olympus.

I’ve read all of her books but now have the option to listen to them on audible. I love the characters, plot, how short each of the books are, and how they can all be stand alone yet still play into each other. Her books are definitely a comfort read to me.

Dark and messed up
Reviewed: 10-31-24
Pretty messed up but too good to put down. The ending felt a little abrupt to me but other than that i can’t complain about the writing. The substance is really dark and gruesome and while the story has “romance” (if it can be called that), it’s definitely not the main focus. Pay attention to the trigger warnings if you’re sensitive to certain things.

Story
According to the FBI, I was considered a serial murderer after three kills. What do they call me after fifty-two? They call me the Silencer. One final bullet would have been all it took to stop me from taking another soul, and I would have been doing Meridian City a service by pulling that trigger. An angel crying for help stopped me, and that night, I took three lives for her. Then three turned into eight. Then eight turned into twenty. Twenty turned into twenty-one. Twenty-one turned into twenty-three.

Reviewed: 10-19-24
This was definitely an interesting story. A lot of dark twists and turns. Some things were predictable but this was a good read. I finished the book in two days. Definitely made me think of a schizophrenic Batman then I kept giggling at the thought of the Silencer running around saying “I’m Batman” in his dark gravely voice 😂

The premise for the story is a little taboo but at the same time not really. Each love interest plays a role in character development. It was easy to listen to, the steamy scenes were written well, and the actual story line was interesting. Not a bad listen but definitely not as dark or taboo as some say it is.
