Story
Social connection is as essential for our health and happiness as a balanced diet and regular exercise. It reduces our risk of stroke, heart disease, and Alzheimer's. It enhances our creativity and adds years to our life span. Yet many of us struggle to form strong and meaningful bonds—and the problem lies not with our personalities but with a series of cognitive biases that stop us from fulfilling our social potential. In The Laws of Connection, David Robson describes the psychological barriers that lead us to keep others at a distance and offers evidence-based strategies to overcome them.

The narration. I couldn’t concentrate on the message bc the narration was so bad : Inflections? pauses? All wrong! Distracting! Was it voiced by a robot? A BAD AI?

The German girl sounded so sad! I could not listen without getting depressed. I don’t need Super-peppy or musically smug; but hey, she makes you not want to visit Germany!

Story
When Myriam decides to return to work as a lawyer after having children, she and her husband look for the perfect nanny for their son and daughter. They never dreamed they would find Louise: a quiet, polite, devoted woman who sings to the children, cleans the family’s chic Paris apartment, stays late without complaint, and hosts enviable kiddie parties. But as the couple and the nanny become more dependent on one another, jealousy, resentment, and suspicions mount, shattering the idyllic tableau.

Just sad , disappointing, pointless
Reviewed: 08-04-21
No likable characters. The nanny was impossibly perfect. The older daughter was somewhat of a budding sociopath; that should’ve been developed as some sort of motive , but was not. The nanny could’ve asked for help. The rich parents could’ve easily given her a well-deserved a raise, and solved the money problems that were(maybe?) a cause for her attempted suicide/murder. Unrealistic main character, poor decisions . No resolution. Completely unsatisfying

Story
Make sure the kids aren’t around! Just because you’re a grown-up doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy the art of the children’s bedtime story. Nick Offerman presents this collection of 12 short stories written in the style of a classic kids' tale, but with a decidedly dark and adult approach. What really happened after Snow White died, from the perspective of the one medically trained dwarf? A naive wizard professor reports back from the trenches of an underprivileged school of magic. And much more!

Gratuitously depressing

I could excuse some gore and dismemberment in the interest of a clever story. But this was just random and pointless. A real downer. NO payoff. No twist. No meaning. Just perversity for its own sake. Ugly. No redeeming reason to listen. I’m disappointed in the Scotsman I liked.

Narrator made me hate her
Reviewed: 04-03-16
Something about the narrators vocal inflections, and tone of voice, and the way she said "did-int and "could-int" instead of didn't and couldn't, made her Sound like a spoiled rich girl all throughout the book. And she kept making so many bad decisions, I'm sorry, I just wanted to slap her( not really, I'm not a violent person, but Please, girl!!) I know we were all stupid when we were 19, and she had been especially sheltered, but after hours of this I could not sympathize. She was a very very lucky girl!
