Story
Johnnie Rico never really intended to join up—and definitely not the infantry. But now that he’s in the thick of it, trying to get through combat training harder than anything he could have imagined, he knows everyone in his unit is one bad move away from buying the farm in the interstellar war the Terran Federation is waging against the Arachnids. Because everyone in the Mobile Infantry fights. And if the training doesn’t kill you, the Bugs are more than ready to finish the job.

Even after all these years this book still holds up five stars!
Reviewed: 06-20-25
I first read this book about 25 years ago while in boot camp for Army infantry training. At the time I thought it was fantastic, now I think it's even better the second time around. I've now read the book, listened to the book, and watched the movie. Both the book and the movie are phenomenal. Although, there are many differences they're each fantastic in their own right. I'm so glad that I came back to this book after all these years. Even with as old as this book is, being written in 1959 it completely holds up to this day. I cannot recommend it enough. The story is top-notch, the writing is fantastic, and the narration is superb. Five stars all around!

Story
The City of Inventions, Pallass, is a fascinating place. Filled with all kinds of oddballs from the named-rank [Alchemist], Saliss of Lights, to Grimalkin the [Sinew Magus], a drunken Dwarven master [Blacksmith], to Chaldion, to... Wyverns? Erin Solstice is on a break from her inn. Not for long; she's returning with more Skills, but she has changed. She will return with her usual chaos and wonder, but always differently. Now, there are flames and... a garden?

Slow at parts but it picked up at the end.

I'm going to rate this book at a four-star overall rating. The story kind of dragged in places, but after 15 books 30 to 60 hours each I suppose that should be expected. Every good story needs some filler here and there. The narration was as always five stars. The story was still really good and I am completely hooked on this series. I'm very much looking forward to the next book but this one was slow in parts. Either way four star overall is still a really good rating and I would definitely recommend continuing with the series!

Story
Nash and Nate have finished the task set before them by their hataali and have set their foot on the path to healing. Neither one knows what to expect, however, and Nash does have a few concerns about their future. But those will have to wait as the tribal council has more important things for them to do when they get back to Vegas: deal with a bunch of organ-jackers who have been preying on the young women of several of the local tribes. Then, of course, there's still the problem Nate's been having with the good folks of Raycon Corporation, who really want a look inside his head.

Good but a bit convoluted
Reviewed: 04-09-25
This book was overall pretty good. It was definitely confusing and a bit convoluted though. The crazy amount of jumping back and forth in between timelines and parallel worlds was very hard to follow. it's essentially time traveling through parallel worlds. It just got to be a bit too much. The first book was great and this book was okay but definitely should have been toned down a bit with the back and forth jumping over and over.

Story
In his first-ever Doctor Who novel, Tom Baker’s incredible imagination is given free rein. A story so epic it was originally intended for the big screen, Scratchman is a gripping, white-knuckle thriller almost 40 years in the making. The Doctor, Harry and Sarah Jane Smith arrive at a remote Scottish island when their holiday is cut short by the appearance of strange creatures - hideous scarecrows who are preying on the local population. The islanders are living in fear, and the Doctor vows to save them all.

Story
Dominic's world had been a fairly simple life. To live his life to the best of his abilities, gain experience, level up, and strive to enjoy himself as best he could in a backwater. Which, while tough on its own, was made infinitely harder by his father being the local executioner. All of that becomes infinitely worse when his entire family is murdered. Dominic is then thrust into a war between noble houses that had been put on hold for generations. A war that the royal family lost, and now only had one true heir and claimant: Dominic Randolph.

mehhh... it was ok
Reviewed: 11-13-24
I'll start by saying I'm a huge William D. Arand fan and I have read or listened to every book he's put out. This is the second book recently that just did not seem like he was the author. I don't know if he's completely changed his writing style or what's going on but I'm definitely not a fan of it. Don't get me wrong the book was okay and the narration was all right. I think this is the first one of his books that I haven't given a five-star rating. Definitely a solid 3 star though. I really hope that he gets back to his old style. I'll probably get the next book in the series but I'm not going to rush out and buy it like I did with all the rest of his books. Hopefully he can switch the narrator to one of his other narrators that he's used in the past. Not a big fan of this one. Again, the book wasn't bad but definitely only a three star.

Wayne dreamed of piloting a thirty-foot-tall walking robot that was closer to a battle-tank than anything else. They were called Walkers. They were armed with laser cannons, rockets, missiles, and heavy kinetic weapons more similar to artillery pieces than guns, and everything that went with that. Unfortunately, he had been declined military service. His only avenue left to become a Walker Pilot was to make it happen all on his own. Under his own power. With his own hands. Literally. Working his fingers to the bone, saving all he could, and digging through junkyards and salvage pits,

Great book but different writing style than usual.

I'll start out by saying I really enjoyed this book. Strangely though this did not seem like a William D Arand book. At least the first half definitely seemed like it was written by someone else. It's not his normal style of writing. Don't get me wrong I really enjoyed the book and am looking forward to the second one this just didn't seem like one of his normal books. The narration was Top Notch and I think he picked a great choice for the narration team. I give this book Five Stars.

Great book but not the best in the series by far.
Reviewed: 08-02-24
As with all of the other Wandering Inn books this one was really good. It did drag on in a few places though. Time wise, in my opinion, about 10 hours of fluff or filler could have been taken out to make this book flow a lot better. But, it was still worth listening to, for sure. I'm looking forward to the next one and will definitely be getting it.
