About this listen

In Robert A. Heinlein’s controversial Hugo Award-winning bestseller, a recruit of the future goes through the toughest boot camp in the Universe—and into battle against mankind’s most alarming enemy …

Johnnie Rico never really intended to join up—and definitely not the infantry. But now that he’s in the thick of it, trying to get through combat training harder than anything he could have imagined, he knows everyone in his unit is one bad move away from buying the farm in the interstellar war the Terran Federation is waging against the Arachnids.

Because everyone in the Mobile Infantry fights. And if the training doesn’t kill you, the Bugs are more than ready to finish the job …

Amazing SIFI milltary drama

The book gives a look at milltary life without overtly shoving it into our face. The reveals were subdued like in life, they were not the focus but nice nodds to how real life is. I don't want to contrast this with the movie, they did uses some of the books sources meterial but too obvious poetic license. As a stand alone book we'll woth the listen. I could listen to R. C. Bray read a phone book.

Worth the wait!

Excellent rendition, I have always enjoyed the story but the previous narration wasn’t to my liking, this one is superb! Recommend!

R.C. Bray does it again.

R.C. Bray's performance makes George Wilson's excellent performance sound mediocre in comparison. Very much worth the wait.

A Heinlein Classic

What can I say? Heinlein was my introduction to political philosophy as a teen. If political philosophy is not your thing, then a really good yarn that I periodically revisit for pure escapism. A good reader who gets it right most of the time, with the exception of military time.

WHO SNEEZED???

Even though I’ve listened to the original recording probably hundreds of times, this is an entirely different story. Bray’s performance brings new depth to the characters through the sheer emotion he overlays the voices with. Zim is now my favorite character, especially during the boot camp section.

R.C. Bray is solidly in my top three favorite narrators, and this performance is a perfect example of why.

Sci-fi hall of fame for sure.

So freaking good! R.C. Bray is my hero and Heinlein was so far ahead of his time it’s hard to believe.

Good story with great narration.

My experience with Starship Troopers was limited to the movie. Now that I have listened to the book I can say that it is not only different but also vastly superior to the film.

The book is an autobiography of a career soldier delivered in real time that is as much about philosophy and civics as it is war and action. I expected the casual listening of an action yarn and instead found myself thinking about the topics being discussed.

And, of course, R.C. Bray brought his A game and gave the whole story his signature sense of speed and urgency.

Starship Troopers was well worth the wait and I will no doubt be listening to it again.
