About this listen

In Robert A. Heinlein’s controversial Hugo Award-winning bestseller, a recruit of the future goes through the toughest boot camp in the Universe—and into battle against mankind’s most alarming enemy …

Johnnie Rico never really intended to join up—and definitely not the infantry. But now that he’s in the thick of it, trying to get through combat training harder than anything he could have imagined, he knows everyone in his unit is one bad move away from buying the farm in the interstellar war the Terran Federation is waging against the Arachnids.

Because everyone in the Mobile Infantry fights. And if the training doesn’t kill you, the Bugs are more than ready to finish the job …

One of the best RAH books ever just got better.

I've loved Starship Troopers since I first read it 25 years ago as a teenager. It is one of the most insightful books written, and entertaining to boot.

The older audiobook of this novel is not bad. Nothing wrong with it. However, RC brings new life to this work. His dynamic presentation is a perfect fit.

I've had this on pre-order for YEARS and thought "this is going to stay forever on pre-ordpre-order".

So, I'm incredibly pleased with how this turned out. Took Audible far longer than it should have to get this out, but it truly was worth the wait.

Thank you, RC, for giving this classic the audio treatment it so richly earned.

world building

I grew up on the movies and I finally got around to getting to the book. It was a great read. The world in contrast to its movie counterpart seemed plausible and maybe more preferential to our current world affairs. The reader's voice was smooth like a nice whiskey with a nice smokey flavor and notes of nutmeg and cinnamon and apple. He really made you feel like you were reading the journal of a real man. The more somber make the world feel that much more real. Great read.

Disappointing compared to the film

If you’re considering this title because of Paul Verhoeven’s film adaptation, I would recommend passing on this one. The story is a very straightforward, surface level sci-fi. It lacks any of the satirical social commentary which made Verhoeven’s film a classic. Though the author doesn’t necessarily promote his vision of the future as either good or bad, the lack of any commentary on what is clearly a fascist society made this title a disappointment for me.

Different than expected. But good

Having seen the movie first and loving it for the horrible awesomeness that it is, I was not expecting this. I enjoyed the deeper exploration of Rico’s service time and thought the deep dive into what it means to be a citizen was extremely thought provoking. Doesn’t feel like a story written in 1959. RC Bray is outstanding as always.

Best Narration of Starship Troopers I've heard!

Listened and read this quite a few times, and I have to say that this is the best narrator yet.

Outstanding Performance of a Classic Book

RC Bray breathes new life into a classic in what I’m sure will come to be considered the definitive audiobook edition of Starship Troopers.

Proves the old adage

I love the movie, a true classic, but as has been said many times, the book is so much better.
