Story
Psychologist Dr. Ophelia Bray has dedicated her life to the study and prevention of ERS—a space-based condition most famous for a case that resulted in the brutal murders of twenty-nine people. When she's assigned to a small exploration crew, she's eager to make a difference. But as they begin to establish residency on an abandoned planet, it becomes clear that crew is hiding something. While Ophelia focuses on her new role, her crewmates are far more interested in investigating the eerie, ancient planet and unraveling the mystery behind the previous colonizer's hasty departure.

It's pretty good

The narrator's voice on this tale is very soothing, to the point where I used it to fall asleep a couple times. The story was well written, and contained things I've never encountered before. It's not the most exciting story I've ever read, but I didn't get bored and I finished the whole thing. It's worth a listen.

Story
The human race has turned to dust. August Morrison faces it after rising from the depths of a dark matter research facility in Arizona. His co-workers. His daughter. All of them: dust. Friends and colleagues around the world don’t answer their phones. The city of Phoenix burns. He is alone. As a world without mankind starts to crumble, August fights not just for survival, but for his very sanity. On the other side of the country, Poe McDowell watches her parents crumble into dust just moments after being shoved inside a coffin-like device that spares her from the same fate.

I was completely engaged in this book. The narrators were great, the story line was great, the only thing that wasn't perfect was the twist at the end. It makes total sense and doesn't take away from the story at all, but it caused me to say a few bad words.
Worth the read/listen.

I wish there were more

My only complaint is that the resolution of one character arch seemed rushed. While I agreed with the choices, I feel like it could have been explained a little more - like "Whatshisface all of a sudden stopped being such a jerk because he was secretly into being dominated the whole time, and now his new mistress wouldn't put up with that crap." That'll make more sense when you finish the series - and I totally recommend you do. I really liked this series.

A good listen!

I had a little trouble with some of the toxic relationships - I just don't have the patience for gaslighting and emotional abuse even if those things are setting themes that are resolved within the book. The story kept me interested and I listened to the whole thing. I especially liked the bit at the end where the author talked about his inspiration. It was really cool to see how normal, everyday things can inspire really gripping stories. The story itself started out like normal life, things got a little weird, then things got weirder and weirder, until Holy Hell This Is Weird - as the truly great horror stories do. I'd recommend. :)

I love Wil Wheaton's performance, and I really liked the concepts used to sell the story. I'm sure the other reviews praising the book are sincere, there's nothing inherently wrong with it. I just got bored and walked away.

Story
It’s the house of their dreams. Former marine Harry and his wife, Sasha, have packed up their life and their golden retriever, Dash, and fled the corporate rat race to live off the land in rural Idaho. Their breathtaking new home sits on more than forty acres of meadow, aspen trees, and pine forest in the Teton Valley. Even if their friends and family think it’s a strange choice for an up-and-coming pair of urban professionals, Harry and Sasha couldn’t be happier about the future they’re building, all by their lonesome.

One would think a book entitled "How to Sell a Haunted House" would be about a haunted house. Halfway through the book there had only been a few subtle suggestions that something isn't quite right in there. I got bored and moved on.
