Unbelievable!

I listened to this on my own and fell in love. Then I had my kids aged 13, 11 and nine listen with me. We all loved it! At the end of the day this book is a total love story! We gushed together. With kids, the action doesn’t pick up until the island. My kids’ eyes popped out of their heads with the description of Lucy! With adults the language is addictive and hilarious from the first minute. Best book I’ve heard in years! Thank you TJ Klune!

Go With The Abridged Version
Reviewed: 05-17-18
If there is an abridged version, try that. This is a good story but it totally bogs down over describing aspects of The Oasis and Gear for The Oasis. I’m sure some fans will love that part, but if you’re just the average science fiction geek, it wears on you.
The reader was very good.

Loved every minute of this novel. And as with Christopher Moore’s previous novels, after finishing I’m immediately inspired to go back and listen to all of his others again. He packs in so many good jokes, images, and ideas that every time you listen to one of his novels you laugh at something new.Thank you!

The town psychiatrist has decided to switch everybody in Pine Cove, California, from their normal antidepressants to placebos, so naturally - well, to be accurate, artificially - business is booming at the local blues bar. Trouble is, those lonely slide-guitar notes have also attracted a colossal sea beast named Steve with, shall we say, a thing for explosive oil tanker trucks.

Story
The Goldfinch is a haunted odyssey through present-day America and a drama of enthralling force and acuity. It begins with a boy. Theo Decker, a 13-year-old New Yorker, miraculously survives an accident that kills his mother. Abandoned by his father, Theo is taken in by the family of a wealthy friend. Bewildered by his strange new home on Park Avenue, disturbed by schoolmates who don't know how to talk to him, and tormented above all by his unbearable longing for his mother, he clings to one thing that reminds him of her: a small, mysteriously captivating painting that ultimately draws Theo into the underworld of art.

This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
Well, it took me almost 6 months to finish this "masterpiece." I kept shutting it off in frustration after having to listen to Tartt once again describe her main character's drugged out haze. But I did it! I finished! I want some sort of award because that was such a slog. I know so many people that haven't finished this book that I feel as if I'm the lone survivor of a plane crash!

Story
In this world of bribes, vendettas, and swindling, in which heiresses are gambled and won, Trollope's characters embody all the vices: Lady Carbury is 'false from head to foot'; her son Felix has 'the instincts of a horse, not approaching the higher sympathies of a dog'; and Melmotte - the colossal figure who dominates the book - is a 'horrid, big, rich scoundrel...a bloated swindler...a vile city ruffian'. But as vile as he is, he is considered one of Trollope's greatest creations.

What made the experience of listening to The Way We Live Now the most enjoyable?
Timothy West is fantastic. I will look for other books read by him for sure. This story is great too. It's long, but well worth it. Repeatitive at times, but that's probably good because it's mostly recaps to remind the listener about the multitudes of characters. There are so many hilarious moments in this book that simply sneak up on the reader. You won't regret this purchase!

What a snore.

Would you try another book from Nora Roberts and/or Julia Whelan?
Are all Nora Roberts books this tedious? No wonder she can churn them out so quickly. The actual plot in this book could have been told in 2 hours. But no. Roberts fluffs up her weak story line with enough crap to choke a horse. How many times do I have to listen to a discription of Abigal Lowery's garden? The dinner she's making? The hoodie she's wearing? The main character tells and retells the murder scenario about 100 times. I dreaded her meeting another character because it was just going to be told again. And again. And again. I wanted this book over more than any other I've listened to before. I'm sure there's a market for this crap, and I'm sure Nora Roberts is laughing all the way to the bank. But do yourself a favor and stay as far away from her pablum as possible.

Fragile Katniss Became Annoying
Reviewed: 08-17-11
By the end of this book, I wanted to kill Katniss myself. All that introspection. Sheesh. The author needed to get on with the story and not dwell so much on the inner conflicts of her heroine. Katniss, the fragile and naive killing machine. Ugh. Even when other characters gave her direct information, Katniss had to analyze the meaning for 10 long, tedious pages/minutes before somehow always making her brilliant decision. I'd like to write an alternative ending where Joanna kills Katniss in the Quell and takes over being the Mockingjay. THAT would have been more interesting and certainly less annoying.
