Story
Only those who love trees should cut them, writes forester Ethan Tapper. In How to Love a Forest, he asks what it means to live in a time in which ecosystems are in retreat and extinctions rattle the bones of the earth. How do we respond to the harmful legacies of the past? How do we use our species’ incredible power to heal rather than to harm? Tapper walks us through the fragile and resilient community that is a forest.

A wonderful story that gave me a whole new insight into our land. I contacted our county forester already in hopes of being a better steward for our immediate forest.

I’ve read a lot of books on healthy living, but this is up in the top 3. The narrator has a somewhat annoying style but the content is amazing. It should be part of the curriculum in every high school.

Story
Undercover - it can be a nasty business. Constantly meeting new people is always interesting. Realizing that you may need to send them to prison - or kill them - adds a whole different flavor. Rob Anderson knows his job. And he loves his work. It’s all he has, really. No family to speak of. No "significant other" - though many "insignificant others" tend to come and go. Rob likes it like that. No baggage. Great memories. Not-so-great memories. All part of the tapestry that makes up the life of Rob Anderson.

Story
On July 4, 1961, the rising middle-class families of a Chicago neighborhood gathered before their flag-bedecked houses, a confident vision of the American Dream. That vision was shattered over the following decade, its inequities at home and arrogance abroad challenged by powerful civil rights and antiwar movements. Assassinations, social violence, and the blowback of a "silent majority" shredded the American fabric.

Story
Prickly, wry, resistant to change yet ruthlessly honest and deeply empathetic, Olive Kitteridge is “a compelling life force” (San Francisco Chronicle). The New Yorker has said that Elizabeth Strout “animates the ordinary with an astonishing force”, and she has never done so more clearly than in this book, where the iconic Olive struggles to understand not only herself and her own life but the lives of those around her in the town of Crosby, Maine.

Story
For decades we've been told that positive thinking is the key to a happy, rich life. "F*ck positivity," Mark Manson says. "Let's be honest, shit is f*cked, and we have to live with it." In his wildly popular Internet blog, Manson doesn't sugarcoat or equivocate. He tells it like it is - a dose of raw, refreshing, honest truth that is sorely lacking today. The Subtle Art of Not Giving a F*ck is his antidote to the coddling, let's-all-feel-good mind-set that has infected modern society and spoiled a generation, rewarding them with gold medals just for showing up.
