Story
In present-day California, Eleanor Bennett’s death leaves behind a puzzling inheritance for her two children, Byron and Benny: a black cake, made from a family recipe with a long history, and a voice recording. In her message, Eleanor shares a tumultuous story about a headstrong young swimmer who escapes her island home under suspicion of murder. The heartbreaking tale Eleanor unfolds, the secrets she still holds back, and the mystery of a long-lost child challenge everything the siblings thought they knew about their lineage and themselves.

I enjoyed being back in the world of The Fever series but I felt the book wasn't true to the best books (the first 5) the relationship between Barron's and Mac was based on sex and not on a deeper bond. Read to complete the series but don't expect to love and devour like the first 5 books

Story
Bernadette Fox is notorious. To her Microsoft-guru husband, she's a fearlessly opinionated partner; to fellow private-school mothers in Seattle, she's a disgrace; to design mavens, she's a revolutionary architect, and to 15-year-old Bee, she is a best friend and, simply, Mom.
Then Bernadette disappears. It began when Bee aced her report card and claimed her promised reward: a family trip to Antarctica. But Bernadette's intensifying allergy to Seattle - and people in general - has made her so agoraphobic that a virtual assistant in India now runs her most basic errands.

I enjoyed this book. It was narrated by the author herself which was nice to get to know her since I had no prior knowledge of her or her work. I had to get use to her pronunciation of certain words using the 30 second rewind often. The book was funny and made me laugh out loud. It also made me think about things differently. Worth reading/listening.

Women want to be in love, get married, and live happily ever after. Those two attitudes clash in unfortunate ways to create struggle and strife in what could be a beautiful relationship.

I typically like it when authors read their books but I didn't enjoy Dr Laura's voice or her tones and inflections in this audio book.
The content was fine and beneficial but her tones were accusatory which put me off.

Sybella arrives at the convent’s doorstep half mad with grief and despair. Those that serve Death are only too happy to offer her refuge - but at a price. The convent views Sybella, naturally skilled in the arts of both death and seduction, as one of their most dangerous weapons. But those assassin's skills are little comfort when the convent returns her to a life that nearly drove her mad. And while Sybella is a weapon of justice wrought by the god of Death himself, He must give her a reason to live.
