Story
Bryan Stevenson was a young lawyer when he founded the Equal Justice Initiative, a legal practice dedicated to defending those most desperate and in need: the poor, the wrongly condemned, and women and children trapped in the farthest reaches of our criminal justice system. One of his first cases was that of Walter McMillian, a young man who was sentenced to die for a notorious murder he insisted he didn’t commit. The case drew Bryan into a tangle of conspiracy, political machination, and legal brinksmanship—and transformed his understanding of mercy and justice forever.

Interesting but long
Reviewed: 05-10-19
I was enjoying the story but there is a lot of information and it just goes on and on quoting numbers and government rules. Hard to believe this still goes on and that some of the laws were not that long ago.

Story
When my eyes are closed, the monster can't see me. When I sing a song in my head, the monster can't hear me. When I pretend my bedroom is a playground where I play hide-and-seek, the monster can't find me. The darkness should frighten me. I should worry I'll find more monsters...monsters scarier than him. But I'm not afraid.

Story
You went to bed at home, just like every other night. You woke up in the back of a taxi, over 250 miles away. You have no idea how you got there and no memory of the last 10 hours. You have no phone, no money, just a suicide note in your coat pocket, in your own writing. You know you weren't planning to kill yourself. Your family and friends think you are lying. Someone knows exactly what happened to you. But they're not telling....

My Anxiety Is Kicked In
Reviewed: 02-15-18
I don't know why but my anxiety level with this book was up. I just kept thinking why is no one on Sally's side? Why don't they believe her? The book does not have huge plot twists but is written in a way the keeps you guessing. You almost feel as insanely mad as the character does. Sally is desperate to figure out what happened to her but has no support from family or friends. She starts to do and act out of character for herself, which only makes people worry more. She is betrayed by friends at every turn. You can understand where family thinks she is having a breakdown because from the outside looking in that is how it would seem. This is slowly driving Sally even more insane. It is just so true to form how little things can be misconstrued or perceived differently by others and your whole world is turned up on end. Really gets you thinking.

Potential to be Great
Reviewed: 01-09-18
Please change the narrator. At points it is hard to tell characters apart for the male roles. She does a good job with the female character but I still am not a huge fan. This book has the potential to be great. I am just not sure if Pepper Winters is going to be able to get there. There seems to be a lot of dragging on in the story. I get it she does not remember. Move on and lets get to some excitement! I am going to go for the second book because I think there is potential for the story line to move to greatness. Lots of hidden innuendos of as to plot twists. We will see.

Long Winded
Reviewed: 01-09-18
OK, I'm sorry to say that I did not like this book as much as others by Pepper Winters. This first book was a better story and I was hoping that this one would pick up with even a better story line but alas it fell short. It was just a lot of the same scene over and over. He loves her, she loves him, he's keeping secrets, she wants to know....blah, blah, blah. Honestly you could tune out and pick back up and think you were at the same point. She could have gone in 100 different directions with this story line but it just did not happen. I'm a little sad as I love Pepper Winters. Narrations was not good either. At times I had trouble telling characters apart. Male voices needed to be stronger. Not my favorite as she has picked better narrators for her other books. I won't give up on Pepper Winters. Try her Dollar series if you have not.

Vanessa Mazur knows she's doing the right thing. She shouldn't feel bad for quitting. Being an assistant/housekeeper/fairy godmother to the top defensive end in the National Football Organization was always supposed to be temporary. She has plans, and none of them include washing extra-large underwear longer than necessary. But when Aiden Graves shows up at her door wanting her to come back, she's beyond shocked.

Light and Fluffy
Reviewed: 12-21-17
This was just ok for me. It is a light and fluffy listen. Nothing surprising and nothing exciting. Just a warm and light hearten book about romance. It is very typical and you can probably layout the entire plot in the first 5 min but it was still enjoyable enough of a listen on a cold winter day curled up by the fire.

Once upon a time, I was an 18-year-old psychology student. Now, I'm a man's property. Stolen and sold, I've been decorated in bruises since the day my world changed two years ago. I suffer in silence, I crave freedom, but I never break. I can't. Until he arrives. Elder Prest, the only man to look at me and see me. The only man more ruthless than my owner. He wants me for reasons I don't understand. He claims me for one night then leaves and never looks back. Until he returns. And life becomes much more complicated.

Dark, Heartbreaking & Captivating
Reviewed: 12-21-17
This book is very dark and heartbreaking. To think of all the young women out there that this really happens to is just crushing. However Pepper Winters does a great job of not just writing about the torture but making you feel her pain and suffering without giving you all the details. She lets your imagination fill in the blanks in places. You feel crushed and hopeful and devastated and regret. You think you know what will happen and then it doesn't. You praise Pim's strength yet you want her suffering to end. This book has your emotions all over the place. You like it but then think what is wrong with me liking a book about such a dark subject matter, yet you do. This book is captivating weather you want it to be or not.

Once upon a time, I believed in fairytales. But then he took me. And he taught me that life isn't a fairytale. He is scarred. Broken. A dark and wild thing. His beauty is violent and his words are cruel. His heart is a shadowed landscape where nothing can grow. He tells me he could never care for me, and he proves it every day.

Dark and Twisted
Reviewed: 12-21-17
This is a dark and twisted story. I am not sure if you can truly like what happens to Bella in the end. It is a twisted take on Beauty and the Beast. However, it does keep you reading so it does have something hidden between the torture that keeps you guessing. I'm not sure I liked the dark places this book takes you to but I did like the fact that Bella never gives up. This is a unique twist to an old story. I think there is a potential and the author sets you up for the next book. Tracy Marks does a great job of bringing the characters to life.

Not As Bad As Everyone Says.
Reviewed: 10-10-17
I read the reviews and took a chance as I love Kristen Ashley. Most of the reviews complained about the narration. Stating that her accents were cheesy. Honestly I did not think they were that bad and she has a large repertoire of voices she uses. I agree that the whole ghost story line was unbelievable and did not come into play until 3/4 of the way through the book. I think there was potential to create a really interesting story but it fell short. This was not my favourite K.A. book but I still love her writing. She has such dynamic characters and always makes you buy into the the story.

He says he owns me. And it's true. I've signed over complete control of my body and life for six months to a man I don't know. Five years he's been planning this. They say revenge is a dish best served cold. But my blackmailer serves it up white hot. He's addicted to my innocence, and I'm addicted to him. He likes to hurt me. I love to let him. He brings me to life. He sets me free. He makes my heart feel things it shouldn't. But he also scares me.

Too Fast To Believe
Reviewed: 10-10-17
This is a typical billionaire meets poor girl. The age difference is a bit unbelievable. Also the fact that her brother goes to prison at the age of 16 does not see realistic. Their chemistry is rushed and the story line is rushed. Rylan holds a secret and that is about all the story line there is. Although Tracy Marks does an OK job with narration, she lacks really bringing characters to life. Her emotions were lacking to make me really buy into this book. Not the worse I've read but not the greatest either.
