Story
In 48 hours, the Earth will be hit by a coronal mass ejection (CME) from the sun, a "Carrington Event" that has the power to shut down and possibly destroy the world's electrical infrastructure. To try and prevent permanent damage, everything goes dark prior to the hit: Global communications are shut down; hospital emergency generators are disconnected; the entire internet, media broadcasting, and cell phone systems are turned off. Will the world's population successfully defend itself in the wake of the CME, or will mass panic lead to the breakdown of society as we know it?

I really enjoyed this story and it kept me engaged. A lot of philosophical issues to be resolved in a short period of time. Compelling. Very well acted.

Story
"No time to delay. Do what you were born to do. Fame will be yours when you do this." These are the words that ring in the mind of mild-mannered, beloved schoolteacher Cora Gundersun - just before she takes her own life, and many others', in a shocking act of carnage. When the disturbing contents of her secret journal are discovered, it seems certain that she must have been insane. But Jane Hawk knows better.

This series really frightens me
Reviewed: 02-11-23
Boy I hope Dean Koontz is not prescient. I hope this all remains firmly in the world of science fiction. But for some reason the story really gets under my skin and of all the dystopian futures predicted, this one seems the most plausible to me. It is scary as heck y’all! But great storytelling and can’t wait to read the third one.

Story
It was one of the most searing images of the twentieth century: two young boys, two princes, walking behind their mother’s coffin as the world watched in sorrow—and horror. As Princess Diana was laid to rest, billions wondered what Prince William and Prince Harry must be thinking and feeling—and how their lives would play out from that point on.

I really enjoyed getting Prince Harry’s viewpoint and I appreciate why he wanted to get it out there. He seems like a genuinely wonderful person, and I thank him for sharing his story. I wish him and his beautiful young family many years of flourishing and prospering and happiness. I would love to hear part two!

Story
Thirty-nine was a fantastic year. I was married to the man I loved. I had a body that worked without creaking. My grandma, who raised me, was still healthy, and life was pretty damned good. But as they say, all good things come to an end. One year later, I’m a widow. My joints are starting to ache. Gram is in the nursing home, and dead people think my home is some kind of supernatural bed-and-breakfast. Gluing body parts onto semi-transparent people has become a side job - deceased people I’m not even sure are actually there.

No one is ever going to co
mpare this to Proust, but as Beach reads or cozy mysteries or that type of thing go, this one’s pretty entertaining. The voice acting is exceptional. Definitely above and beyond. And the story is compelling. I want to read the next one. I guess that’s the highest praise you can give.

Story
Kat Grant and Alice Campbell have a friendship forged in shared confidences and long lunches lubricated by expensive wine. Though they're very different women - the artsy socialite and the struggling suburbanite - they're each other's rocks. But even rocks crumble under pressure. Like when Kat's financier husband, Howard, plunges to his death from the second-floor balcony of their South Florida mansion. Howard was a jerk, a drunk, a bully, and, police say, a murder victim. The questions begin piling up.

Story
Robert Evans' The Kid Stays in the Picture is universally recognized as the greatest, most outrageous, and most unforgettable show business memoir ever written. The basis of an award-winning documentary film, it remains the gold standard of Hollywood storytelling. An extraordinary raconteur, Evans spares no one, least of all himself. The Kid Stays in the Picture is sharp, witty, self-aggrandizing, and self-lacerating in equal measure.

I could not take listening to it. I wish that a professional narrator would have been hired. I understand Robert Evans used to be an actor but he's rusty. And he habitually laughs and chuckles. I guess he feels that because it's his own story he can do that. Whereas no professional narrator would constantly laugh and chuckle while telling a story. It's super annoying. It's just very unprofessional.

Story
For decades, Demi Moore has been synonymous with celebrity. From iconic film roles to high-profile relationships, Moore has never been far from the spotlight - or the headlines. Even as Demi was becoming the highest paid actress in Hollywood, however, she was always outrunning her past. Throughout her rise to fame and during some of the most pivotal moments of her life, Demi battled addiction, body image issues, and childhood trauma that would follow her for years - all while juggling a skyrocketing career and at times negative public perception.

it could have been longer and gone more in depth, but I appreciated her frankness about her life. She didn't try to make herself a victim even though there were times when she was victimized. She was honest about her flaws and she told a story about a rather interesting life. Would have loved a little more detail about the Hollywood glamour and how exciting it must have been to go on that ride. But overall I recommend it. Interesting book. And she was Brave. To tell the story I mean.

Story
That is Fanner Marston’s mantra—his reason for being—and while he knows a little about the first and a lot about the second, he may well be on the verge of learning everything there is to know about the third. Power. He may, in fact, be about to uncover the key to gaining absolute control over the entire universe. The only problem is, Fanner is certifiably insane.... His starship has crash-landed, and he’s the sole survivor, which doesn’t matter to him.

Story
Jeremy Bishop's first pulse-pounding novel is a horrific tale of post-apocalyptic terror that is one part zombie story and one part Dante's Inferno. The story asks hard questions and generates strong emotions in everyone who reads it--anger, excitement, and most of all: FEAR. This book asks the question that everyone is afraid to answer: Are you ready? Enter the mind of Jeremy Bishop if you dare. Share his nightmares. Experience the fear that shaped his life. You may never be the same.

Not enough plot for a novel
Reviewed: 02-22-19
The plot started out really strong but about 2/3 through it turned into a run, hide, fight, repeat, repeat, repeat, repeat story. There wasn't really any plot after the first two thirds of the novel. Just what I guess would be called action but what I would call boring. People running and hiding and killing and running and hiding and killing and running and hiding and killing. And there is no big payoff in the end that makes it worth it. I think there was enough plot here for a short story or a novella but not for a full novel.
