Loved Book and Series, but…

Loved Book and Series, but… the ending of book 8 really jumped the shark!
Sure, I would have preferred a different ending, but it was all still really great, well written, and fantastically performed. Not sure I have it in me to continue the series after that ending, but it really was an intense cliffhanger, so… not sure, we shall see! Definitely loved this series, and laughed my butt off!!

When mechanic and shapeshifter Mercy Thompson attempts to return a powerful Fae book she'd previously borrowed in an act of desperation, she finds the bookstore locked up and closed down. It seems the book contains secret knowledge - and the Fae will do just about anything to keep it out of the wrong hands.

I give up on the main character.
Reviewed: 12-21-24
Instead of growing as a character, she’s just become frustratingly absurd and reckless (particularly with the lives of people who love her). Then she spends a couple chapters rambling on and on about how stupid and reckless she is, and how guilty she feels about it, and immediately does it again. Her boyfriend always forgives her, even when she endangers his teenage daughter. I feel like the author has given up and is just building another story around the main character doing stupid stuff.

Story
I’m a Gemini. Impulsive. Curious. Headstrong. A twin. Heir to a throne I know nothing about. And it turns out, I’m Fae. But of course, there’s a catch - all I have to do to claim my birthright is prove that I’m the most powerful supernatural in the whole of Solaria. And sure, technically that’s true, as I’m the daughter of the Savage King. But the bit they didn’t put in the brochure was that every single Fae in this Kingdom would claim my throne if they could.

Juvenile /Teen Sadism
Reviewed: 08-21-24
Mostly this is a story about people with power deriving pleasure, sexual or other, from overpowering others. Its written like the four main guys are leading up to raping one or both of the twins, for them to instead do a really juvenile prank. I don’t know what the author(s) were going for, but its was too much sadism for me.

Everything about this was great, there’s something original in it for everybody. It’s a thriller, mystery, romance, scary story, and a happy story. There are some gory aspects, but the story is original while sharing similarities with the Brothers Grimm.

Being part of the Midwest Pack isn't easy - especially now. My life has never been simple - and it only keeps getting more complicated. The Alphas, Ethan, and several key players in the otherworld go missing, thrusting me into the position of Elite Alpha and tasking me with finding them. Good Story, even if protagonist is more victim then heroine, Reviews Overly Harsh
Reviewed: 10-01-23
1st: modify the audio speed to 1.20 or 1.25. (It will revert back occasionally) If you don’t, the narration speed is unbearably slow. This also helps address the noticable breathing pattern of the narrator.
I liked this story more and more, once I realized the victim isnt meant to develop into a stereotypical heroine.
2nd: keep in mind, the main character IS a hostage, in every sense of the word. The other characters treating her captivity like they are doing her some “great a favor, that shes too irrational to appreciate” is some true gaslighting bullshit.
3rd: The main character is a victim, and not a “hero”, she has watched her mother get murdered; has no idea why this is all happening to her; is intentionally kept uninformed by her “protectors”; EVERYONE, is either trying to kill her, or is continuously threatening to kill her; and she seems to exists in a constant state of fear and panic. Considering this, I found her more than occasional, irrational behavior forgivable.

Great for those craving an verbally and emotionally abusive romance
Reviewed: 04-14-23
Serious, this was weird. The entire story is about the MC being completely infatuated with a verbally and emotionally abusive assassin who she knows is manipulating her to potentially kill her mom…all because he’s a very pretty elf and absolutely no self-esteem. Especially loved the scene where she has to listen to him have sex with two pretty elf women, and is told it is all being done her…. Why write this story.
