Story
Dr. Margaret Richter has it all. She’s rich, thanks to her best-selling self-help books. She has a beautiful home in Cape Cod overlooking the beach. And she has a monthly book club that everyone is dying to get invited to. Literally. Because behind the crystal wine glasses, the fine linens and the catered hors d'oeuvres lies a tangled web of secrets, of deceit, of murder. No member of the book club is innocent—and many are guilty. And the person with the most to hide is Margaret Richter herself.

I CANT BELIEVE THIS GOT PUBLISHED!?!?!?!? There isn't a single redeeming quality about this book. Every character is rediculous and listening to it is like watching a VERY bad lifetime movie. Just skip it.

I kept falling asleep🤣
Reviewed: 12-08-24
Ok the narrator's voice was so buttery and soothing. It was like listening to a grandfather who smoked his whole life and drank a rich, dark whiskey while tellling you a story by the fireside. He also had hardley any range,so all the characters got blended together. That being said (A) I LOVED HIM!!,but... (B) He lulled me to sleep!! 😅🤣😂
As far as the story goes..it was just meh. I mean, it was like "a year in the life of a spy", but in too many seperated snippets. There were several points that I said to myself "wait, what just happened?"
I would have loved a shorter plot line with a lot more fleashing out. A lot more detail on just one mission would have been great! Like I said in the begining, its lovely to listen to in the backround, but I just couldn't concentrate. Maybe it was just a "me thing".

Terrible Narrator/Aweful Story
Reviewed: 11-27-24
That was....so back asswards. The very last chapters made sense but honestly it was so borning and unnecessarily tedious. It was like the author had to scientifically justify every aspect of the story (NOBODY CARES by the way). It could have been so much better if (A) we knew what the creature actually looked like (B) If there were a better description of what it did to its hosts (C ) we didnt have to listen to a robotic man narrator.

Its so refreshing to find a new sci fi story that I could absolutely see happen. The very best and worst of humanity is revealed (a kin to what we all saw during our very real pandemic a few years ago). Best of all, Kate's reading was masterful and she deserves so much credit for adding depth to the characters. Thank you for this!

Story
Investigative journalist Laura Chambers is back in her tiny hometown of Hillsborough, North Carolina, the one place she swore never to return. Fired from The Boston Globe, her career in shambles, she reluctantly takes a job with the local paper. The work is simple, unimportant, and worst of all, boring - at least until a missing girl turns up dead, the body impeccably clean, dressed to be the picture of innocence. Years earlier, 10-year-old Patty Finch left home and never made it back. But for the people of Hillsborough, Patty was just the beginning.
