About this listen

This book contains strong language, and adult themes that may not be suitable for everyone.

Jenny sits in the same seat on the same train every week, seeing familiar faces come and go.

Until a chance encounter shatters her world.

Sixteen years ago, Jenny survived a traumatic ordeal that left her best friend, Susie, missing and presumed dead. The world has its theories about what happened to Susie Patterson, and one of those theories points the finger at Jenny.

Now she lives a quiet life, volunteering at a crisis helpline while trying to deal with her own anxiety and the true crime fans obsessed with finding her missing friend. Then, on the way to her usual shift, Jenny is certain she sees Susie sitting in coach D.

But will anyone believe her?

Seeing Susie plunges Jenny back into a nightmare of forgotten memories and haunting fears. As the past claws its way into her present, she must unravel the truth about what happened sixteen years ago.

But the deeper she digs, the more she realises that some secrets are better left buried.

Meh

The narration was solid. Good descriptions. The plot had promise. Yet, Jenny, the main character, is ridiculous. Surrounded by good people, she’s still self destructive, and whiny. She has chosen to chase her abuser without a net. I listened to the end but, sorry, I wouldn’t recommend. It was annoying with her silly choices, snotty attitudes, and lack of self knowledge considering all her therapy.

Dragged out the story. Good ending though

Cleaver concept but it took too long to get to the point. Each scene drug on for far too long. In skipped forward many times especially during the first half.

Too long and unsatisfying ending

Great premise. Drew me right in. The characters were not likable, though, and I forced myself to get to the end.

Great story - let down ending

I really enjoyed the setup of the story and the narration but once the truth of the story started to reveal itself I just felt like the story took a left turn. I enjoy reveals and twists that take me by surprise and gives me this moment where everything clicks into place that you didn’t know or understand why and all of a sudden it makes sense. The ending just feels like details were thrown out to fill in the gaps of the story and answer questions to quickly wrap it all up.

Different from the typical murder mystery plot line. Enjoyable.

Intriguing and kept my attention. Went a different direction than expected- which I enjoyed. Great narration.

though it was sometimes difficult to tell which character was speaking - overall: this story kept me locked in until the end. it was unexpected, simply but exquisitely written .

Satisfying to the very end!
