'Deeply empathetic and profoundly unsettling, this is contemporary crime fiction at its finest' - Dinuka McKenzie

Corinne Gray is a woman whose life is falling apart. When probationary detective Kyle Nazarian unexpectedly knocks on her door on a rainy morning, she knows why. He wants to talk about her son, Ben. This is her chance to finally explain how her sweet-natured child – who loved history and dreamed of swimming for Olympic Gold – grew up to do the unthinkable. What really happened to Ben? And could anyone have prevented it?

Desperate for justice, Corinne has poured herself into uncovering the sinister figures behind her son's actions and the shadowy online communities that prey on vulnerable young people. Kyle, meanwhile, is grappling with his own personal crisis both at home and at work. Torn between his duties and a growing sympathy for Corinne, Kyle must decide how far he's willing to go to help her.

We Need to Talk About Kevin meets None of This Is True in this shattering and provocative psychological thriller that dives into the darkest corners of the internet and the powerful bonds between parents and children, from the bestselling author of Dark Mode.

I absolutely loved it. I’ll try to explain why without using certain words in order not to spoil it. So, unexpectedly, instead of just a thriller, you receive a very deep look into the psychology of parenthood, how our seemingly rational adult choices affect those who, we think, accept them by default. As well as loneliness and social media, corruption and moral choices, and much more. I suggested this book as a book club read, because it just evokes so many themes for discussion and debate!!!

Ideal for a book club! Phenomenal story that makes you think in a form of a thriller

So horrified to know these groups exist and what they can do to people. Excellent use of fiction to highlight while entertaining.

Riveting!

This was a creative, suspenseful, and eye opening look into the mind of a troubled teen who was plagued by societal influences and all of those who were then impacted. It also take a look into how the police force handles investigations into their own. All and all the actors, story, and author are amazing.

incredible story with great twists

The character development was superb and so is the narration. The plot twist was absolutely surprising. Also, I think the premise of the story is something that needs to be talked about in legacy media. The influencers who imprint their biases on young minds and hearts need to be held responsible when things go so awful wrong. Just as adult supplying alcohol minors are brought to account.

Totally riveting

Pretty good story, made me reflect back on my youth and first love and how much that shaped my teenage years. But i can’t imagine what it would be like to go through those years and also have to deal with the way social media has changed the world and wived its way into our everyday lives.

Makes you think about the effects of social media on the youth

A very interesting and current story. At first glance this book seems like it could be very one sided, it is not. It really does give fair and realistic play to all aspects and perspectives. I enjoyed the nuance and character depth very much. Narration was great. Highly recommend.

There was nothing that I disliked about it. but I do dislike having to put in a 15-word minimum. sometimes you just don't have that much to say

The storyline stood out the most. it was a very good storyline

What has social media done to our society and children? I quit all social media about 8 years ago. I don’t miss it and stories like this totally reinforce my decision. Yikes!
