Story
Ninety-one-year-old Gretel Fernsby has lived in the same well-to-do mansion block in London for decades. She lives a quiet, comfortable life, despite her deeply disturbing, dark past. She doesn’t talk about her escape from Nazi Germany at age 12. She doesn’t talk about the grim post-war years in France with her mother. Most of all, she doesn’t talk about her father, who was the commandant of one of the Reich’s most notorious extermination camps. All The Broken Places moves between Gretel’s girlhood in Germany to present-day London as a woman haunted by the past.

Wonderful follow up to the 1st book. The only thing I did not understand was Why the author blamed a child through out the whole book. Made no sense to me. Other than that, this book was as good as, if not better then the first book. 🙏🏾❤️👍🏾

Story
The incomparable master of the legal thriller takes us deeper into the labyrinth that is the American justice system, always drawing us in with an irresistible hook, pulling the thread of tension tighter and tighter, and then knocking us out with a conclusion that's never "by the book". Maybe that's why, after more than 20 years of consecutive number-one New York Times best sellers, a new novel by America's favorite storyteller is still a major publishing event.

Story
Seth Hubbard is a wealthy man dying of lung cancer. He trusts no one. Before he hangs himself from a sycamore tree, Hubbard leaves a new, handwritten, will. It is an act that drags his adult children, his Black maid, and Jake into a conflict as riveting and dramatic as the murder trial that made Brigance one of Ford County's most notorious citizens, just three years earlier. The second will raises far more questions than it answers. Why would Hubbard leave nearly all of his fortune to his maid? Had chemotherapy and painkillers affected his ability to think clearly?

The book was well written, easy to comprehend, educational, and a very good story. I enjoyed how it flowed and moved like a river. At times it was as sweet as sunshine on the sunshine and a cool breeze, at other times it was as ugly and cruel as a wild beast tearing at an infants bare skin. Through all the tears of laughter and pain came a story of true triumph.
Has the recipe to become a movie 👍🏽👍🏾👍🏻👍🏿👍🏼

In my book, you will meet a little girl named Viola who ran from her past until she made a life-changing decision to stop running forever. This is my story, from a crumbling apartment in Central Falls, Rhode Island, to the stage in New York City, and beyond. This is the path I took to finding my purpose but also my voice in a world that didn’t always see me.

Loooong & Negative
Reviewed: 02-17-24
I doubt she ever found herself, and I don’t think she will ever truly deep down inside be a happy, female.…
I thought that, Overall, it was so long and so negative. I thought it would be a good book by a good actress who would tell the ups and downs of her life… the whole thing was drawn out and miserable. Even once she got out of her home of dread she started ll sounded muse able hating everything and everyone, including herself. 🥱
It was a miserable story about the miserable life. I think the book may have been a bit more ______, if someone else had narrated it. Her monotone, very blah voice made me want to delete it from my Audible library but I made myself complete it because all the hype I heard every time I turned the tv on or read a review it was on the up & up. I am hear to tell you in these descriptive words, all my feelings the whole time, page after page what kept coming to my thoughts about this book,
Boring, so similar to most other women’s bios, when they had a terrible childhood, long, I thought it would never end, never any positivity at all. She sounded like she had a miserable life, and like she will be miserable the rest of her life, no matter what she does. And that deep, gravelly voice, I feel bad for writing a negative review, but what can I say I thought it was a terrible story nothing out of the ordinary, and, even when the book was over I don’t think I got anything that made me feel good about this book. It was just slow and boring.😦🙄

Story
The year was 1917. As a war raged across the world, young American women flocked to work, painting watches, clocks, and military dials with a special luminous substance made from radium. It was a fun job, lucrative and glamorous - the girls themselves shone brightly in the dark, covered head to toe in the dust from the paint. They were the radium girls. As the years passed, the women began to suffer from mysterious and crippling illnesses.

This book matches everything I’ve read prior to listening to Radium Girls. I can tell you, what I’ve researched about this awful period in history, it excellently tells what happened to these women. But nothing in history could ever give these women back their lives or dreams of having a life after this horrible period. The only misgiving I have is I feel it could have been narrated much better.

The last thing he expects to hear is that his son Isiah has been murdered, along with Isiah’s white husband, Derek. Ike had never fully accepted his son but is devastated by his loss. I really don’t have the words that could make you know just how good this book was or words to honestly describe how well written or performed, but I can promise you, you won’t be disappointed.
Best one yet. I only have one of his books left and if you will excuse me I’m ready to get right into it.

Extremely outstanding and Extremely well written.
When an author can make you, not only visualize every move his characters make but where every spec of dust lays in a room,,,,
You need not worry if he’s created a good read.
As Mr. Cosby writes, he paints a picture.
THAT is why I have no problem when I have to wait for his next book. He’s an artist on many levels and his book glide across every canvas he puts his pen to.
Thank you.

Story
In 1972, when workers in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, were digging the foundations for a new development, the last thing they expected to find was a skeleton at the bottom of a well. Who the skeleton was and how it got there were two of the long-held secrets kept by the residents of Chicken Hill, the dilapidated neighborhood where immigrant Jews and African Americans lived side by side and shared ambitions and sorrows. Chicken Hill was where Moshe and Chona Ludlow lived when Moshe integrated his theater and where Chona ran the Heaven & Earth Grocery Store.

I lost power, my phone died when I was trying to finish the review I will just say this it’s not only extremely moving, but I will never eat another piece of the sweet potato pie without having this book in mind to remind me to read it again, and again, and again. I never got to turn my review around from where I began to where I am now finishing… James McBride is one of the best authors I have ever read. His book, the color of water to the good Lord Bird right onto this one he’s a one of a kind author and he really is writing a masterpiece with this book and all the different characters and all the different storylines that all combined into one story I just cannot explain how masterfully this book was put together. Again I love sweet potato pie. 🥧🥧🥰
