Story
For 30 years, a tiny band of humans has been sheltering in the caverns of an airless, crater-pocked world called Michaelmas. Beyond their solar system lie the ruins of human interstellar civilization, stalked by a ruthless, infinitely patient cybernetic entity determined to root out the last few bands of survivors. One man has guided the people of Michaelmas through the hardest of times and given them hope against the wolves: Miguel de Ruyter.

Underwhelming

Not his finest, and honestly disappointing in terms of the plot and characters. His earlier works are much better.

Much weaker than the 2 previous books
Reviewed: 06-23-23
Meh, this book really lacked the action the previous 2 books had. The plot was slow, boring, full of clichés and pretty predictable. A lot of the action scenes were more “told” than “shown”. Overall disappointed and lackluster.

Wtf happened to Clevain’s voice?
Reviewed: 06-04-23
They completely switched Clevain’s voice with some shitty Texas accent and now the entire story is really hard to listen to… FFS. Figure it out.

Absolutely beautiful

A mind bending, eye opening exploration of sentience and what it means to be alive. The children of time trilogy are the best books I’ve ever read.

Story
At first, Logan Ramsay isn’t sure if anything’s different. He just feels a little . . . sharper. Better able to concentrate. Better at multitasking. Reading a bit faster, memorizing better, needing less sleep. But before long, he can’t deny it: Something’s happening to his brain. To his body. He’s starting to see the world, and those around him—even those he loves most—in whole new ways. The truth is, Logan’s genome has been hacked. And there’s a reason he’s been targeted for this upgrade.

Slow, preachy, boring, and not worth your time
Reviewed: 07-31-22
Starts off well enough but quickly descends into a boring, drawn-out, unconvincing attempt at articulating the thought processes of hyper intellect mixed with a super predictable plot. Ted Chaing’s “understand” is so much better. Was a shame after dark matter and recursion… not worth the time to listen to

This is a book about the relationship between characters, and the plot is super boring and almost feels after thought… would not recommend.
