About this listen

The key to saving humanity—or dooming it—is in the hands of the enemy.

Veteran mech operator Sergeant Major Shaw spent his career fighting huge monsters known as Sentinels. He never expected that he would be piloting them.

But as a new war unfolds, Shaw finds himself and his team using this unorthodox technology in a desperate attempt to save the New World Republic from destruction. The Principality of the Seven Sons has control of an ancient Progenitor dreadnaught rumored to have the power to enslave and destroy empires. No one is safe.

Not even Shaw and his Deadmen.

The Principality has resurrected the worst of the Progenitor weapons, infecting entire planets with a bio-engineered disease called the Scourge. With the Scourge and the dreadnaught poised to destroy the NWR, the fate of mankind is dark.

There is only one hope for survival. One mission so dangerous, so impossible that only a single team is suited for it. The Deadmen.

Pacific Rim meets Starship Troopers in Scourge, the third book in the Deadmen’s War series.

The Deadmen's War series is now performed by Mark Boyett, narrator of the bestselling sci-fi series Undying Mercenaries.

Like every change in narrator it took a bit to settle in but he did ok and the story was great.

Narrator change

I love this story and especially partial to the characters and their use (piloting) of the sentinels and the associated battles. I have always been a fan of this type of scifi. took a bit to adjust to a change in narrator but hoping the absolute best for Mr Bray as he deals with health issues and I appreciate Mr Boyett for continuing this series. Audible format suits me best (I do a lot of driving) so I'm very glad to be able to continue with this series!

great read, again!

Although I understand why R.C Bray is unable to consistently perform due to medical issues, it’s always disappointing to see him switched out in the middle of a series. No discredit to mark, but no other person can allow me to net up to this sentinel of a series like Bray.

Narration

Story was excellent. Narration was poor, I had to listen at 1.2x speed to even tolerate narrators poor speaking mannerisms.

Narrator poor, need RC Bray

I like the idea of the story. Bioi mechs are an interesting take on sci-fi.

The writing of the main character is what made me stop listening to book 3. Every fight is either a loss, they kill their sentinels or win the fight but fail the objective. Then the main character blames himself for everything.

Book three is just more of the same and it frustrates me as a listener.

A great idea but falls short

Fantastic story. Narrators voice is not right for this performance. His voice isn’t a consistent volume either and he doesn’t portray the moment right.
I specifically look for performances from R.C Bray and choose those listens over any others if possible. His reads are epically done!!

Where’s R.C Bray??????

I love RC’s voice. I can’t get into it anymore sorry but I don’t think I am the only one.

You changed the voice actor

PLEASE READ -- be human and take a minute to not jump to conclusions on the narrator changing. This series is incredible, and I cannot wait to read the next 3 in the series. I'm a fan of Bray's narration work as well as everyone, but I do know that the narrator had to be changed this book due to the original narrator's health issues-- not a willy nilly $ or time decision like others were presuming. Good ole social media lets you do a little extra research if you choose to take a second before ransacking and negatively reviewing someones career work. Anthony was very transparent in his comments. I appreciate as a reader that he is active to kindly shedding light into what is going on behind the scenes. It's super disappointing reading people's assumptions, I have followed Anthony's work since The Tide series, and don't think it's fair to jump to conclusions, rate his work down, because the narrator changed when it's not up to the author -- especially in this scenario. I'm in the creative world too, and wrongful assumptions like this can wreak tragedy over one's work when we really don't know the layers underneath; I'd suggest being human here and focus on the story, the author's story, not the narrator when I can imagine this was ultra stressful for the author having to switch out narrators. I do not envy that position.

Amazing story, narrator changed b/c of health

I always enjoy the combined science and action in Anthony's books. The Deadman's series is one of my favorites and really takes off in this third installment. Mark Boyett did a great job taking over for RC Bray who I saw had health issues preventing him from continuing the series. I'm in this one to the end, can't wait for the next book!

Very much enjoyed!

First off, if someone needs to take the baton from RC Bray, Mark Boyett is the only man for the job. Thank you Mark, great work. Enjoying this series
