This book has a sensibility and feel that is uncommon to Western novels. I really enjoyed listening to the story and the narrator.

For five grand a month and a million-dollar chaser, Roger Mulligan didn't care how crazy the old geezer was. All he had to do was keep Joseph Perry Shackleford alive and keep him from squandering the estate for a year. But they didn't tell him about the pixies.

I really like this book. Contrary to Audible’s categorization, I wouldn’t call it either Paranormal or Urban. It is a clever story, well written, with excellent narration … and it also happens to have a bit of magic. Recommended really for anyone (except for those who crave action and mystery, then no).

Story
Four-time Tony Award® winner Harvey Fierstein takes on New York City’s very own political firebrand, Bella Abzug, in his new raucous, heart-rending, and absurdly humorous solo show. Set in 1976, on the eve of her bid to become New York State’s first female senator, Bella Bella finds this larger-than-life, truth-slinging, groundbreaking, hat-wearing icon squirreled away in the bathroom of a midtown hotel awaiting that night’s election results while a coterie of family and celebs await her entrance. Directing is Kimberly Senior (The Niceties).

When Rachel Meyer, a 30-something foodie from New York, agrees to move to Mumbai with her Indian-born husband, Dhruv, she knows some culture shock is inevitable. Blessed with a curious mind and an independent spirit, Rachel is determined to learn her way around the hot, noisy, seemingly infinite metropolis she now calls home. But the expat American’s sense of adventure is sorely tested when her mother-in-law, Swati, suddenly arrives from Kolkata - 1,000 miles away - alone, with an even more shocking announcement: She’s left her husband of more than 40 years and moving in with them.

I read this author’s first novel that is available on audible, but felt lukewarm about it. This book, on the other hand, is a solid 4 stars. I have listened to it a few times (between other selections) and like it more each time. Insight into Indian way of life, well imagined and constructed characters. Recommended.

They are two very unlikely correspondents.

Great narration, average story
Reviewed: 09-20-19
First, please don’t compare this book to The Help, since they are in different leagues. In my opinion, the storyline and writing were for a younger audience, and, since I am hardly part of that group, I thought this was an average listen. The narration kept me listening, and so I tip my hat to those ladies. 3 stars.

William Warwick has always wanted to be a detective, and decides, much to his father’s dismay, that rather than become a lawyer like his father, Sir Julian Warwick QC, and his sister, Grace, he will join London’s Metropolitan Police Force. After graduating from university, William begins a career that will define his life: from his early months on the beat under the watchful eye of his first mentor, Constable Fred Yates, to his first high-stakes case as a fledgling detective in Scotland Yard’s arts and antiquities squad.
