Surprisingly good book
Reviewed: 09-11-24
It’s very rare that a new book comes out with a non cookie cutter plot and storyline concept. Though aspects I could see coming I was actually surprised by some of the turns and new character introductions. This is worth listening to and with Tim Gerald Reynolds’s narration, well it’s a no brainer.

Story
The Bobiverse is a different place in the aftermath of the Starfleet War, and the days of the Bobs gathering in one big happy moot are far behind. There’s anti-Bob sentiment on multiple planets, the Skippies playing with an AI time bomb, and multiple Bobs just wanting to get away from it all. But it all pales compared to what Icarus and Daedalus discover on their 26,000-year journey to the center of the galaxy.

This was back to good story telling and exploration. Also some unplanned challange with species and same problems never end. You would think the Bobs would be less predictable especially as they experienced things over the years that should influence future behaviors, alas no. But still good story.

Story
It has a dark past - one in which a number of humans were killed. A past that caused it to christen itself "Murderbot." But it has only vague memories of the massacre that spawned that title, and it wants to know more. Teaming up with a Research Transport vessel named ART (you don't want to know what the "A" stands for), Murderbot heads to the mining facility where it went rogue.

Not the typical decent Chaney book
Reviewed: 05-27-23
This book is Mehhh at best. The characters are decently developed but the story is just basic go here do this with a hero that doesn’t know what he’s doing or why even though he is trained to be this badass and other characters who should know all about what their doing but don’t and even more lost. Very much like a kids movie where kids are smart but parents are stupid and need guidance, but all the characters are parents. In total a shallow story line and no real point or direction with clueless characters.
I know the narrator can tell a story based on other book’s adequately, so I put all the fault with the authors.

The story is good and a page turner in that you can’t always predict the plot. My only issue is with the male lead and narration. The narrator unnecessarily uses a pompous ass tone especially at the beginning that just grated on me. Female narration was stunning and saved the book. It’s worth the listen and the male lead narration gets better over the course of the book.

Story
I destroyed organizations that controlled galaxies. I brought the World Government to its knees. I was the first man to outwit the greatest mind humanity has ever known. I fell in love with the fiercest female warrior who ever lived and came out alive with nothing but a smile. I escaped kidnap from the most ruthless crews in known space. I formed my own space crew who conquered a planet. I created a new race with nothing but a word and a kiss.

Fast paced but still takes time to develop characters. Very fun sequence of events that you can’t anticipate in all situations. Evolution of a suit who finds out his life is a lie to becoming a merc to leading the crew in the end. If second book is half as good as the first it’s better than 80% of books out there.
