Story
On the family’s Brazos River Ranch in Texas, Avery Elliott helps run her grandfather’s commercial construction business. Raised by Senator Elliott, Avery has never doubted her grandfather is the man of integrity and faith she’s always believed him to be . . . until the day she finds him standing with a gun over the body of a dead man. To make matters worse, Avery’s just discovered a billing discrepancy for materials supposedly purchased for construction of the Lago de Cobre Dam.

Great book audio disappointing
Reviewed: 10-20-22
I love Diann Mills. She is a wonderful author and the book was what you would expect from her. However, the narrator ruined it for me. The voices were not really discernible between characters. They added no life to the book and if anything took a way from the story. It’s one of those books that I wish I had read the hard copy.

Story
When Miss Julia's regular doctor goes on vacation with his wife, leaving a replacement in his stead, Miss Julia is immediately concerned. Never one to miss an opportunity to entertain - or size up - a newcomer, she invites the charming Dr. Don Crawford, and his painfully shy wife, Lauren, to dinner. While Miss Julia and Sam both note Lauren's obvious lack of social skills, it's her friends Hazel Marie and Binkie that pick up on some of Dr. Crawford's less palatable qualities.

Always the best! Ann B. Ross is a phenomenal story teller and Cynthia Darlow makes the characters come alive even more with her narration. I’ve listened to every book at least twice and some including this one three or more times. You can’t go wrong with this series.

Dont switch audible performers in a series
Reviewed: 10-31-21
I’m finishing this book for the story, but it is dreadfully hard. Cynthia Darrow is one of the best readers/performers there is. When you use her you CANNOT switch to another performer. Nobody sounded like the the characters already formed by Cynthia in this book. I’m sure had she been who always read the audible version it would have been fine, but not after Cynthia.

Story
When Hannah learns that her sister Michelle's boyfriend, Detective Lonnie Murphy, is the prime suspect in a murder case, she goes straight from a movie studio sound stage to the Los Angeles airport. Back in frigid Minnesota, she discovers that proving Lonnie's innocence will be harder than figuring out what went wrong with a recipe. Lonnie remembers only parts of the night he went out to a local bar and ended up driving a very impaired woman home.

Book first then recipes
Reviewed: 03-02-20
I have listened to most of this series and I like the story line for the most part, but the biggest thing is the recipes. I wish on the audio books they would put these at the end. That way you could write down the ones you want, instead of having to fast forward through them to get back to the book. As far as the performance goes, I can’t help but compare everyone to Barbara Rosenblat. She is phenomenal! However, Toren is pretty good. The only voice that really bothers me in this book is Michelle’s. She sounds like she is 12-15 not an adult, but that could be in part from the author as well. Overall it’s a good series

The year is 1920: Flying in the face of convention, legendary American adventuress Beryl Helliwell never fails to surprise and shock. The last thing her adoring public would expect is that she craves some peace and quiet. The humdrum hamlet of Walmsley Parva in the English countryside seems just the ticket. And, honestly, until America comes to its senses and repeals Prohibition, Beryl has no intention of returning stateside and subjecting herself to bathtub gin.

This is another great Miss Julia book! Miss Julia, Lillian, Latisha, and Etta Mae make me laugh every time. There are very few excellent readers and Cynthia Darlow is one of them. She is fantastic with the voices. I didn't like the audible of the first Miss Julia book and she didn't read it, but thankfully she has brought the characters to life in every book since. Thanks Ann for giving us another clean, hilarious suspense to enjoy.

Suddenly, this longtime church member and pillar of her small Southern community finds herself in the center of an unseemly scandal - and the guardian of a wan nine-year-old whose mere presence turns her life upside down.
