Story
To eight-year-old Bela, her family is her world. There’s Mommy, Daddo, and Grandma Ruth. But there is also Other Mommy, a malevolent entity who asks her every day: “Can I go inside your heart?” When horrifying incidents around the house signal that Other Mommy is growing tired of asking Bela the question over and over, Bela understands that unless she says yes, her family will soon pay. Other Mommy is getting restless, stronger, bolder. Only the bonds of family can keep Bela safe, but other incidents show cracks in her parents’ marriage. The safety Bela relies on is about to unravel.

Big flop at the end
Reviewed: 12-26-24
I thought the child narrator’s voice was annoying. There is a lot of extra fluff and the end was a flop.

Story
After Lucy is found wandering the streets, covered in her best friend Savvy’s blood, everyone thinks she is a murderer. Lucy and Savvy were the golden girls of their small Texas town: pretty, smart, and enviable. Lucy married a dream guy with a big ring and an even bigger new home. Savvy was the social butterfly loved by all, and if you believe the rumors, especially popular with the men in town. It’s been years since that horrible night, a night Lucy can’t remember anything about, and she has since moved to LA and started a new life.

Not the greatest book ever but it has a solid storyline and flows nicely. Characters are easy to keep straight and are likable.

Story
The Manipulator. I can manipulate the emotions of anyone who lets me. I will make you hurt, make you cry, make you laugh and sigh. But my words don't affect him. Especially not when I plead for him to leave. He's always there, watching and waiting. And I can never look away. Not when I want him to come closer. The Shadow. I didn't mean to fall in love. But now that I have, I can't stay away. I'm mesmerized by her smile, by her eyes, and the way she moves. I'll keep watching and waiting. Until I can make her mine. And once she is, I'll never let her go.

Don’t do it - it’s AWFUL
Reviewed: 11-24-23
I finished this book (barely) and because it ends on a cliffhanger, I even listened to most of the second book. They are both HORRENDOUS. I don’t mind sexy books but this is not even near sexy. It glorifies stalking and rape. I am not a sexual abuse survivor but I was even triggered by this story.
If you get it, prepare to waste two credits because you’ll want to hear what happens. Let me assure you, it’s hours of repetitive sex scenes peppered with a storyline.
Absolutely the second worst book I have ever listened to. The first worst is the sequel to this one. I couldn’t even finish that one.

Death walks alongside me. But the reaper is no match for me. I'm trapped in a world full of monsters dressed as men, and those who aren't as they seem. They won't keep me forever. Worst book I’ve ever listen to
Reviewed: 11-24-23
I have listened to over 250 books and this is the first book I will not finish. I listened to the first book and barely made it through but it ended in a cliffhanger so I reluctantly started the second. I have 3 hours left and I can’t listen to another minute.
The CONSTANT sex scenes are one thing. But this woman is hunted by a stalker in the first book then is trafficked in the second. The story COULD have been good but it is ruined by the disgusting way her stalker turned love-of-her-life abuses her when she’s with him. It’s ridiculous - after a woman has been held captive and repeatedly raped and physically tortured, she is then “cured”by her boyfriend cutting her up and carving a rose in her chest while they’re having sex?
This book is a slap in the face to anyone who has been abused. It’s not worth your credit - much less two! If you are worried about the cliffhanger then here’s a spoiler alert - she’s abducted and then gets away. Zade makes everything better with his abuse and constant sex. She has an orgasm every single time and she falls in love with him. They torture and kill her captors. The end.

Story
Opal is a lot of things—orphan, high school dropout, full-time cynic and part-time cashier—but above all, she's a determined to find a better life for her younger brother Jasper. One that gets them out of Eden, Kentucky, a town remarkable for only two things: bad luck and E. Starling, the reclusive nineteenth century author of The Underland, who disappeared over a hundred years ago. All she left behind were dark rumors—and her home. Everyone agrees that it’s best to ignore the uncanny mansion and its misanthropic heir, Arthur. Almost everyone, anyway.

Don’t waste your credit

I wanted to love this book. The story had potential. But it was wordy without being detailed. The descriptions were bland and vague. If the author would have “dug in” to the house and characters and used all those words to describe things in detail, it could have been a great book. Instead, it was boring and never-ending.

Trigger warning: GRAPHIC CHILD ABUSE
Reviewed: 11-07-22
This book contains multiple graphic child abuse scenarios. Much of the rest of the book consists of sex scenes.
There’s nothing great about this book. The storyline was weak and the ending pretty predictable. The meat of the story is describing a mother’s horrible ways to hurt her children, beginning with a coat hanger during her pregnancy. Don’t waste your time.

I read the sequel, "The Deep Deep Snow" and liked it very much. Then when I saw this prequel, I was hesitant to try it. I am so glad I decided to give it a try.
This was one of THE BEST books I have ever listened to. There were twists and turns and my heart will also broke a little. It's not often that a book moves me to tears, but this one did. It was definitely worth the credit.
I can't wait for book three!
