Publisher's summary

In this gripping follow-up to his Edgar Award-nominated mystery, The Deep, Deep Snow, Brian Freeman tells the story of Rebecca Colder, a young sheriff’s deputy who faces the most excruciating choice a mother can make.

I know you’ll never forgive me for what I did. I’m sure you’ve asked yourself that question many times over the years.

Why? Why did I do it?

Well, sweetheart, this is the answer.

I was only 26 years old when the monster came back to Black Wolf County. The answers you want begin at Christmas time that year. However, if you really want to understand everything that happened to me - to us - you have to go even further back in my life.

Years back, to the night I met the Ursulina face to face.

So let’s start there.

FINALLY!!!

I’ve been waiting for a sequel to The Deep, Deep Snow for over a year, ever since Tom let slip to Shelby a clue about her mother. It’s always a toss up when you’re given a sequel/ prequel to your favorite book, will it be better or less impressive? Well The Ursulina is every bit as good, maybe even better. I never could have predicted the twists at the end. As always, January does a great job narrating, and I appreciate that the author doesn’t use excessive swearing or sex to add interest. Everything about this book is worth the audible point!

We must have the 3rd one!!

I am so glad Brian Freeman decided to give his readers the prequel to The Deep, Deep Snow!! Wow, I didn’t see that coming. No spoilers included because the story line is too good to spoil for others. I loved the ending, brought a few tears. A great story, waiting for the next installment in the life of Shelby Lake.
P.S. Is there another Cab Bolton in the works? Thank you for sharing your talent.

I’ve listened to all of Brian Freeman’s books and this is my favorite! It kept me guessing until the very end, if you listened to The Deep, Deep Snow, you absolutely have to listen to this one. You won’t be sorry!

Did this come with a warning?

Hostage, abuse, sexual abuse, profanity.

Intense story line. Decent ending.
Narrator is excellent except there was so much quivery, cry-ee voice. May have been necessary for this story as it is awful tragic with only a minimal neutral ending.
So much crying voice that the tenderness or severity of the moment was lost on me.
