About this listen

“Simply put—and I do not say this lightly—Incidents Around the House is the most purely effective horror novel I have ever read.”Neil McRobert, Esquire

A chilling horror novel about a haunting, told from the perspective of a young girl whose troubled family is targeted by an entity she calls “Other Mommy,” from the New York Times bestselling author of Bird Box

“This book is the monster that lives inside your closet.”—Grady Hendrix, New York Times bestselling author of How to Sell a Haunted House

To eight-year-old Bela, her family is her world. There’s Mommy, Daddo, and Grandma Ruth. But there is also Other Mommy, a malevolent entity who asks her every day: “Can I go inside your heart?”

When horrifying incidents around the house signal that Other Mommy is growing tired of asking Bela the question over and over, Bela understands that unless she says yes, her family will soon pay.

Other Mommy is getting restless, stronger, bolder. Only the bonds of family can keep Bela safe, but other incidents show cracks in her parents’ marriage. The safety Bela relies on is about to unravel.

But Other Mommy needs an answer.

Incidents Around the House is a chilling, wholly unique tale of true horror about a family as haunted as their home.

Omg, please no more Bella...

My title seems dramatic but stay with me here

I know that Bella is a child with a child's mind, but I was done with her by the mid mark.

I think it was more how this was written that got me.

For example, if there was be a conversation between her parents but each line was followed by Mom said, Daddo said, etc. This was really bad if there was an argument.

It might have even been the way the child was made to sound. I'm guessing ai was used to make the narrator sound like a kid

All that though would have been livable if this was scary and had a better ending.

Nothing really happened until the end, nothing really scary happened until the end, and once again Josh wrote a story with an ending that did not really have an ending.

All in all, this was middling.

Really scary!

Loved it. Couldn’t put it down. The end dragged out a bit but whatever, I was genuinely scared. Narrator was incredible. Nice one!

it was different

This was no cookie cutter version of a horror novel. Great reading performance. Realistic characters. I lived the voice in this story. Unpredictable. Suspenseful.

Cool story ruined by ending

Don't want to spoil it, as everyone's tastes are different, but the ending just wasn't for me at all. Ruined my enjoyment of all that came before, which is a bummer.

Creepy, Hooked from the Beginning

This book had just the right amount of Creepiness, but I wouldn't necessarily call it Scary. Hooked me from the very first page and held my attention throughout. This story was told in a way that made it easy to visualize. It was told from a child's point of view. At first I didn't think I liked where it was going at the end, but everything was wrapped up nicely. I'd definitely recommend this one.

Spooky all the way through!

At first I was a little offput by the child-like voice even though it’s written from a child’s POV. But the narrator was phenomenal - one of the best I’ve ever listened to. And the story was excellent with lots of little golden threads all the way through. Very spooky! I am going to have to process the end a little more but overall this was a terrific book.

Creepy

Narration from the child’s POV was so creepy, definitely worth the listen. The ending is somewhat predictable but still enjoyable.

Eh it’s a solid 3.5 book.

So, I love listening to horror/thriller/psychological thriller books ( I also love a good raunchy book once in a blue moon). I’ve read so many books, very few have actually scared me & left me sleeping with the lights on. This one did not, but there was some kinda creepy parts. The ending was actually sad for me. A teeny bit predictable; but still a sad book ending. It won’t make you cry by any means, just feel for the little girl.

Now, the mother of this story is just down right not likable. Completely selfish & clueless & we get a front row seat to her pity parties. Gosh she sucks so badly I almost stopped listening. Poor lil girl needed her mother. Instead she got an inpatient, self loathing, nymphomaniac.

Narrator wasn’t my favorite, story just lacked substance. Overall I wasn’t super impressed however I am in position to tell anyone not to buy it. You may like it, however for me It just wasn’t my cup of tea.

A heart wrenching tale of a child's horror

The story is amazing, the voice acting is superb and it will make you wish you could reach in and save them all.
