Bought these to listen at night, in hopes of relaxing and help with sleeping. The unfortunate outcome is that it keeps me awake because i find myself absorbed in the story. I find that I'm looking forward to the next evening's story time. >Please write more

Story
The doorbell rings, just days after my beloved husband’s sudden death. I don’t recognise the woman on our doorstep, with her blonde highlights, a diamond bracelet identical to my own and a bouncing baby boy in her arms. As I show her inside, I notice her eyes grow wide as she takes in our spacious hallway, and the big squashy sofas that we all used to pile on. She glances at the silver-framed family photos and my little daughter hiding behind my skirts. She looks at me, her blue eyes serious. ‘I’m sorry’ she says. ‘I am your husband’s girlfriend. And this is his son.'

Impressed

This is one of the best books I've listened to. The narrator is just perfect. The children's voices, the elderly, the various female characters all sound authentic. Clare Corbett does an impressive change of voice to match the character's personality, tone, and emotion.

When Claire sees Hannah Wilson at an exclusive Manhattan hair salon, it's like a knife slicing through barely healed scars. It may have been 10 years since Claire last saw Hannah, but she has thought of her every day, and not in a good way. So Claire does what anyone would do in her position - she stalks her. Hannah is now Mrs. Carter, living the charmed life that should have been Claire's. It's the life Claire used to have before Hannah came along and took it all away from her.

Story
Of course, I’m not going to murder her in the night. I need my laptop back first. That’s the whole point of making friends with Emily Harper, author of the hugely successful novel Diary of an Octopus. So I could get into her apartment and take back what’s mine. Emily doesn’t know who I really am. She thinks I’m her biggest fan, her new best friend who happens to need a place to stay for a few days. She doesn’t realize the laptop she found—and took—from a busy airport almost two years ago was mine. I don’t care about the laptop, just what's on it: my diary.

Sluggish narrator, good story

I really enjoy the series and the author's style. Their Cold Hearts is a very good continuation of the detectives' story, unfortunately, the narrator is not right for this series. There is little to no emotion in her reading/ acting style. I started to listen to this book at night hoping it help me fall into sleep, luckily it has helped me fall asleep fast!
To enjoy this book I have found it necessary to change the speed to 1.10.
If the narrator would act this out, like Katie Villa or Tamsin Kennard, it wouldn't just be worth listening to but a great experience.

Story
I was just a little girl, fast asleep in my stroller, the day my mother was killed. I don’t remember anything about the sunny day that turned so dark. She’d be so happy for me now, 20 years later, with my dream job as a photographer, and I’m sure she’d love my new boyfriend, Gabriel. But all my happiness vanishes in a heartbeat when the man from our past walks toward me, his eyes on me for just a fraction too long.

Very well written. Filled with suspense! I typically listen to audio books at night to help with sleep. This time, my method didn't work. I listened to this book about six months ago, i listened again thinking I'd be able to fall asleep but it was like listening for the first time. Thoroughly enjoyed it! Love the writer and favorite narrator.
