About this listen

“You’re not going to murder me in the night, are you?” Emily asks.

“Hahaha. That’s funny,” I say.

Of course, I’m not going to murder her in the night. I need my laptop back first. That’s the whole point of making friends with Emily Harper, author of the hugely successful novel Diary of an Octopus. So I could get into her apartment and take back what’s mine.

Emily doesn’t know who I really am. She thinks I’m her biggest fan, her new best friend who happens to need a place to stay for a few days. She doesn’t realize the laptop she found—and took—from a busy airport almost two years ago was mine. I don’t care about the laptop, just what's on it: my diary.

I kept it many years ago as a troubled thirteen-year-old girl with a vivid imagination and a flair for the dramatic. Now she's published it as her own.

She thinks it's a story about a schoolgirl’s crush on her teacher, but she’s wrong. It’s a story about a murder. Two murders, if you count the hamster.

She thought it was okay to make a few changes and publish it under her own name, but she was wrong about that too.

Because, sometimes, truth is deadlier than fiction.

Mystery

Good story but I didn’t enjoy the reading. Her voice made all the supporting characters sound old and sad…

Worth a Listen, but not her best

This one was a bit predictable for me, but it was still entertaining and worth a credit. There were quite a few areas that required a pretty massive suspension of disbelief, which is fine, because it's fiction, but at a few times, I was a little frustrated at having to suspend it so intentionally. That said, I'm a Barelli fan, and will continue to eagerly await releases from her, because her writing style keeps me entertained.

I did enjoy it, The story was funny and smartly told with lots of overthrows and the narrator was great too .

Who Really Done It?

The performance was very good. The Reader did a great job switching between characters.
The plot was extremely twisty and very tedious. I was happy when it was over.

The lead character was kinda funny. the off handed one liners in the early chapters gave me quite the relatable chuckle.

overall that was honestly a blast , thougouly enjoyed the ride , innovative , somewhat original concept. delivered very nicely. I listen to a ton of books and lately I've just had it with the mystery genre although my fav. it's just sad that an original idea is so far out of reach lately I've come across the same ol storyline ECT. this was refreshing. for the first time in awhile I was entertained , I didn't guess anything , even if I had a few preconceived I would have been happily mistaken. this is credit worthy fr
exceptional job with Narration. didn't miss a beat

Not a bad story if you can get past the narration...

The story is okay, but the narrator is ATROCIOUS! Why does she make every character sound like they are half-drunk and whining?! It was truly awful.

A no for me

I didn’t care for the story line. I also didn’t really like the narrators voice all that much. This is probably my least favorite of Ms. Barelli’s book.

Liked the

Twists and turns. I was fooled a little. Horrible teacher and glad of ending. Some cruddy people.

unexpectedly entertaining

I didn't think I could listen to it, but I stayed the course, and it turned out to be actually engaging. It would have greatly gained from being performed by a better reader, one who sounded less ditzy and irritating.
