Impressed with character development, story, moral character and relationships of the major players: Mycroft, Douglas and Sherlock as well as significant supporting characters. Abdul Jabbar is kind of a Renaissance figure : athlete, author, researcher, architect and humanitarian. Plus, he was great in Airplane.

Wasn’t as much narrated as poorly read. Ruined the experience. So bad, it is difficult to believe.

Almost every woman appears as whiney, shallow and one dimensional. Most of the “nobles” as well. Character development is weak. Narration is amateurish but appropriate for such poor writing even allowing for decent story premise.

Story
Magnus Chase has always been a troubled kid. Since his mother's mysterious death, he's lived alone on the streets of Boston, surviving by his wits, keeping one step ahead of the police and the truant officers. One day, he's tracked down by an uncle he barely knows - a man his mother claimed was dangerous. Uncle Randolph tells him an impossible secret: Magnus is the son of a Norse god. The Viking myths are true. The gods of Asgard are preparing for war. Trolls, giants and worse monsters are stirring for doomsday.

Worst reading ever
Reviewed: 10-20-17
The narrator of Magnus Chase is without narrative talent. He reads the book as though he is in grade school, with no inflection in his voice, little interest in his subject and with no emotion. This is the worst audiobook narration that I’ve ever listened to.

Terrible narration

Worst reading ever. Understanding of foreign words and accents non existent. Jarringly atrocious. Pronunciations so off as to be satirical if intended, but instead simply ruined a perfectly good story. If I hadn't paid for the privilege, I would have deleted and read it rather than listen to it on Audible. Execrable performance.
