Story
Nicola Laughton never expected to see adulthood, being diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis as a child. Then medical advances let her live into her thirties and she met Anton, who taught her to dream of a future… together. Months after they married, Anton died in a horrible car crash, but lived long enough to utter five words to her, “I’ll be waiting for you.” That final private moment became public when someone from the crash scene took it to the press—the terminally ill woman holding her dying husband as he promised to wait for her on the other side.

Otherwise it was pretty unremarkable. I think it started off fantastic - but then it just sort of fizzled out.

Story
Nameless. Forgotten. Lost on Earth for centuries with a disembodied voice as my only friend. Protecting the vulnerable without any help from above. No one to explain the rules. Nada. Zip. Zilch. So when High Angelus Gavriel finds me killing a very bad man, can he really blame me? Before I can explain, he drags me back to the place he swears is my home: Sanctuary.

It’s okay
Reviewed: 07-19-24
It is an interesting concept but I found the sex scenes felt gratuitous and jarring. The heroine, Angel, can get irritating and sometimes it’s cute but most times it’s just her thinking about sex. This read more as what they hoped (I assume) would be an erotica rather than a series. Most of the book is simply filler chapters of sex and fantasy.
The female narrator is great.
The male narrator is pretty awful. His cadence and rhythm is weird and it’s hard to understand what he’s talking about. Also he continually mispronounces “mischievous” as mis-chee-vee-ous.
I don’t think I’m going to buy the titles in the series. Not really worth the price or credit. Look for it at your library’s e-selection.

Once presided over by a flamboyant Hollywood mogul during the Roaring ’20s, the magnificent West Coast property known as Roseland is now home to a reclusive billionaire financier and his faithful servants. And, for the moment, it’s also a port in the storm for Odd Thomas and his traveling companion, the inscrutably charming Annamaria. In the wake of Odd’s most recent clash with lethal adversaries, the opulent manor’s comforts should be welcome. But there’s far more to Roseland than meets even the extraordinary eye of Odd, who soon suspects it may be more hell than haven.

Love Odd but not this one
Reviewed: 06-12-24
Love all of Odd’s stories. This one was not great IMO. Kind of felt like filler. It was interesting but really didn’t go anywhere. And I felt there were loose ends that needed a better tie up. I still love the series - just not this title.

Story
Necromancer is such an ugly word, but it's a title Eric Carter is stuck with. He sees ghosts, talks to the dead. He's turned it into a lucrative career putting troublesome spirits to rest, sometimes taking on even more dangerous things. For a fee, of course. When he left LA fifteen years ago, he thought he'd never go back. Too many bad memories. Too many people trying to kill him. But now his sister's been brutally murdered and Carter wants to find out why.

Story good - narrator bad

Ugga bugga! I know my title sounds cavemannish but man after coming off my high of binging Harry Dresden and the awesome narration by James Marsters - this one made my head hurt. All the characters sounded like Woody Allen ugh. It’s too bad too because the story was really interesting if you can get past the voices.

What a fun trip!

This was one of the funnest and most clever story I’ve listened to in a very long time. I would have been a toddler in 1969 but so many things mentioned in the story had me chuckling because I remembered them or the tone/theme of the products or famous people. Highly recommend this “Space Podcast.”

Man, it started off FABULOUS

I was hooked for MOST of this book. I was shocked at the shocking parts and grossed out at the really gross parts. Grady Hendrix is an excellent writer to be sure. I will give his other books a try. But as for this book - and no spoilers - but the ending was absolutely anticlimactic. We readers (listeners) went on this huge quest with Kris and the ending builds and builds and builds until …… it lost me. It’s worth the journey - just don’t be surprised if you’re let down at the end.
