Publisher's summary

In this hard-rocking, spine-tingling supernatural thriller, the washed-up guitarist of a '90s heavy metal band embarks on an epic road trip across America and deep into the web of a sinister conspiracy.

Grady Hendrix, horror writer and author of Paperbacks from Hell and My Best Friend's Exorcism, is back with his most electrifying novel yet. In the 1990s, heavy metal band Durt Wurk was poised for breakout success - but then lead singer Terry Hunt embarked on a solo career and rocketed to stardom as Koffin, leaving his fellow bandmates to rot in obscurity.

Two decades later, former guitarist Kris Pulaski works as the night manager of a Best Western - she's tired, broke, and unhappy. Everything changes when a shocking act of violence turns her life upside down, and she begins to suspect that Terry sabotaged more than just the band.

Kris hits the road, hoping to reunite with the rest of her bandmates and confront the man who ruined her life. It's a journey that will take her from the Pennsylvania rust belt to a celebrity rehab center to a music festival from hell. A furious power ballad about never giving up, even in the face of overwhelming odds, We Sold Our Souls is an epic journey into the heart of a conspiracy-crazed, pill-popping, paranoid country that seems to have lost its very soul...where only a lone girl with a guitar can save us all.

Face meltingly good 🤘🏻🤘🏻

In the past week I have devoured two of Grady Hendrix’s books via audible, We Sold Our Souls and My Best Friend’s Exorcism. Both books have been captivating, I think in large part do to the expert voice casting for the narrator of each book. Grady plays with his words and imagery like an experienced guitar player plays and glides across a fret board, effortlessly and powerfully moving the story forward like the bullet that he equates he characters to. All that combined with the gritty raspy voice and versatile performance of Carol Monda this is a rock and roll roller coaster of a book that had me possessed from beginning to end!!

Wonderful book!

Short and sweet review…What a great take on the classic “sold their souls to the devil” idea. The narrator was great and the story kept me guessing until towards the end! What is real? Was Kris going crazy? Both? Read it and see for yourself! Definitely a great book considering it was free.

Wow

This gives so much new meaning to things happening around the world now. It’s scary. Great story, great voice actor in how it’s told. When you listen to this book and compare to all the odd things happening around the word like school shootings or kidnappings this book makes you wonder…….Could this be what’s behind it?

A masterpiece of feminism & social commentary

Grady Hendrix is brilliant. When it comes to non-mainstream fiction, horror, sci-fi & absurdist fiction, Grady Hendrix stands alone in his ability to make a story with a moral & not beat you over the head with it. Every story of his highlights the challenges & horrors of being a woman in a patriarchy. "We Sold Our Souls" is an exceptional story rooted in those feelings music expresses for us, the ones we can't put words to & the music that pushes us through when we don't think we can live another day "under the wheel."

The Music speaks

The prose captures you from the very beginning… while some of the story feels a bit borrowed the author has the ability to transport you through his flowing details and love of music that shines thru.
