Story
Most people don’t even notice them—three tiny figures sitting at the end of a long pier in the corner of one of the most famous paintings in the world. Most people think it’s just a depiction of the sea. But Louisa, an artist herself, knows otherwise and she is determined to find out the story of these three enigmatic figures. Twenty-five years earlier, in a distant town, a group of teenagers find refuge from their difficult home lives by spending their days laughing and telling stories out on a pier.

Story
Beth and her gentle, kind husband Frank are happily married, but their relationship relies on the past staying buried. But when Beth’s brother-in-law shoots a dog going after their sheep, Beth doesn’t realize that the gunshot will alter the course of their lives. For the dog belonged to none other than Gabriel Wolfe, the man Beth loved as a teenager—the man who broke her heart years ago. Gabriel has returned to the village with his young son Leo, a boy who reminds Beth very much of her own son, who died in a tragic accident.

Signe Pike’s research is fascinating. Her novels based on this research are inspiring and engrossing. Of all of the books I’ve read about King Arthur, this has the greatest ring of truth within the fiction.

Family

The relationship between Luisa and her Abella reminds me of a couple of members of my own family, a grandmother and granddaughter, also. They love each other fiercely and would do anything for each other, and yet they fight constantly. They are dramatic and yet constant. Luisa is SO much stronger than she believes herself to be, and smarter.
The format of this book makes it totally unique and modern. Hearing one-sided conversations makes the listener feel a little like a voyeur, but in a good way.
Kudos to the author on a great book!

Story
ADHD is one of the most common neurological disorders in the United States—yet a staggering 75 percent of girls and women remain undiagnosed. Due to the gender gap in medical research, which does not account for symptoms manifesting differently in women—leading to increased problems with anxiety, depression, working memory, sleep, energy, and concentration—many ADHD women are left to navigate a society that fails to understand their struggles and gifts.

Why didn’t I listen to Tracy Otsuka years ago?!? Listening to her book was enlightening. Many things I attributed to my own personality flaws may actually be due to ADHD. I was diagnosed about 20 years ago and was in denial for far too long. I only recently began to learn more about ADHD and to try meds. I feel so much more understood!

Every generation, a journalist has looked deep into the heart of the nuclear military establishment: the technologies, the safeguards, the plans, and the risks. These investigations are vital to how we understand the world we really live in—where one nuclear missile will beget one in return, and where the choreography of the world’s end requires massive decisions made on seconds’ notice with information that is only as good as the intelligence we have. Pulitzer Prize finalist Annie Jacobsen’s Nuclear War: A Scenario explores this ticking-clock scenario.
