About this listen

An unprecedented guide for any woman with ADHD looking to celebrate her unique brilliance and to embark on a journey of self-discovery.

ADHD is one of the most common neurological disorders in the United States—yet a staggering 75 percent of girls and women remain undiagnosed. Due to the gender gap in medical research, which does not account for symptoms manifesting differently in women—leading to increased problems with anxiety, depression, working memory, sleep, energy, and concentration—many ADHD women are left to navigate a society that fails to understand their struggles and gifts. But what if every woman had the resources and support to uncover the hidden wonders of her neurodivergent brain?

Enter certified ADHD coach and podcast host Tracy Otsuka. Armed with her experience coaching thousands of women, cutting-edge medical research, and personal insights from her own diagnosis, she presents a revelatory guide tailored specifically for girls and women with ADHD. In it, Otsuka offers an entirely new set of tools, systems, and strategies to access a world of boundless productivity, focus, and confidence.

With her signature wit and levity—in entertaining chapters designed for ADHD listeners—Otsuka explores the unique challenges that ADHD women face and illuminates the extraordinary qualities that set them apart: overflowing creativity, laser-focused attention, deep empathy, and fearless entrepreneurial spirit. Even without an official diagnosis, listeners will be equipped with the tools to conquer any to-do list and to tap into their true purpose, personally or professionally.

By dismantling the long-standing stereotypes and misinformation surrounding women with ADHD, Otsuka offers a beacon of hope for any woman looking to transform her symptoms into strengths. Comprehensive, lively, and long overdue, ADHD for Smart Ass Women is the key to unlocking unparalleled potential and to understanding your truly magnificent and brilliant brain.

No more turning into a pumpkin for me! 🥹🎃⏲️

Tracey!!! From the bottom of my ADHD heart, I feel like I know YOU, THROUGH ME. THANK YOU! Buy the book and the audio – it’s like driving to work with the best friend, coach I always needed. ALSO, this allows me to engage and learn through both visual and auditory senses. Trust me. I was diagnosed with ADHD when I was 6 years old and have been medicated since. I am now 30, and it’s as if I am just figuring out who I am, and I think that’s beautiful.

I found this book after reading “Dirty Laundry” and “Scattered Minds,” and after reading “Scattered Minds,” I felt even more scattered. Sure, it was jam-packed with information, but I was not in the highest of spirits after reading it. This book gave me a whole new outlook on myself. My god… am I glowing? My mom even listened to a few chapters with me in the car, and we laughed and cried a bit because she had me very young and did her damn best! I was so loved, but how do you tell a 26-year-old in the ’90s that your kid has a learning disability? A single parent who took all the right steps – I was so fortunate. Therapy before medication, and then when we decided medication was right, I continued therapy. We grew up together, my mother and I 🥹. Last night, our texts went a little something like this:

My Rock (mommy) 10:38 pm: “Don’t turn into a pumpkin 🎃 ⏲️.”
ME: “I was organizing my bathroom after I selected my outfit for tomorrow 😂🫠🤦🏻‍♀️.”
My Rock: “Okay baby, go to bed before you turn into a pumpkin. I love you 🤣🤣🤣.”
ME: Sent her photos of what I organized.
My Rock: “Holly banana 🍌 bread, wow, that’s impressive! So organized 🥳 NOW GO TO BED 💫😂.”

THIS IS the SUPPORT system that we need!!! Don’t believe me? I’m writing this at 5 am. BAM! Time to workout 💕💕

Finally!

In classic adhd fashion I keep writing and erasing trying to find the perfect words ha! I’ll just leave it at - not only is the book validating and inspiring for women, I think no matter your gender or age, this book is for literally everyone - and if they’ll do it - for close friends and family of someone trying to figure it all out. Thank you for writing this book Tracy Otsuka.

Relatable!

I love that Tracy was the one reading this, it didn't get stale as so many monotoned audiobooks can. She shares her story with late diagnosis and so many helpful tips to help with ADHD accompanied by important information that many don't know about ADHD.

Perfect for anyone with an ADHD female in your life!

I first discovered this book from a podcast. Tracy’s discussion hit home and I knew I needed the full book. I shared it with my sister who bought the audiobook as well. We presented differently as children so it was never on our radar until we found Tracy and her book. Since then, we’ve been taking her many tools to simplify life and to turn our ADHD brains into our strengths. I would recommend this book to anyone looking to learn more about ADHD in females.

I feel SEEN!!

This book was right on time for me. I have struggled with ADHD traits for years and finally pursued an official diagnosis because those struggles became too overwhelming for me to manage as I’ve gotten older. I’m 43 and am deep into a healing journey and this diagnosis has been the missing piece to me feeling truly whole.
This book explains so much as to why women are being diagnosed later in life and offers some realistic and truly actionable tips and strategies for honing this super power…in all areas of life! I’m super grateful for this offering and appreciate the author’s knowledge, experience, and voice (you can hear the emotion and passion in her voice) as she really made me feel like she was my own personal ADHD coach. I can’t wait to share with other women who may need it and with my friends and family so that we can all learn and work to create a more easeful existence for ourselves and the women and little girls in our lives.

5 ⭐️

Seriously - this is the best non-fiction I’ve read in 2024. This helped balance evidence base practice with humor and real life application. Really enjoyed this.

Don’t be put off by a kind of intense forward/dedication

Thank goodness for Tracy Otsuka!

As l often do while listening to Tracy Otsuka’s brilliant podcast, I cried several times during this audiobook, simply from the joy of feeling seen and understood. I've read many books on neurodivergence and this is absolutely my favorite. Highly, highly recommend if you have ADHD, suspect you do, or love someone who does. Tracy doesn’t make light of the challenges ADHDers face, but she celebrates our talents and tenacity with fiercely charming optimism and brilliant insight. Thank goodness for Tracy Otsuka’s ADHD brain and her generous heart. This book is a gift.

Very informative

I listened to the whole thing and this is a win for a person with adhd! The author is smart, funny, and I love that she said I could skip around - most books about adhd don’t actually take the adhd reader/ listener in mind and this author did that! The only thing I wish she would have touched on is that when she mentioned all these women having adhd she mentioned all of these women with exceptional careers and resumes already and I wish she had some women who don’t have that but have worked toward a good career and made it happen at an older adult age. All in all it was very informative and her tips and suggestions were really good. Like really made sense to my Nerodiverrgent mind
