Story
Returning from his time in the cities’s militia, Ajax comes to find out his village was destroyed and his mentor was injured due to the whims of a spoiled noble. He knows there is nothing that can be done, as he is now, but luckily for him a dungeon nearby offers the perfect opportunity to train before heading to the Capital. But once he gets there what will he find? A way to heal his mentor? Support to grow even stronger? Nobles who want to use him for their own ends? Maybe all of the above.

Story
With his peaceful life as a scholar far behind him and his ever-growing mountain of debt to the Department of Taxation hanging over him, Jonathan can't afford to play it safe. If he wants to get his castle back, he'll need to take a few risks. At least he's not facing danger alone. Whether it's his faithful butler, a former paladin, a shapeshifter who might have gotten stuck, a land-loving merman, a wandering werewolf, a huntress in disguise, or a raccoon who can remodel the landscape, Jonathan will have plenty of company as he runs (or is dragged) headlong into danger.

Simple but good story
Reviewed: 11-29-23
As the title says was a good story if not a bit simple. Looking forward to the next book and hopefully his class merge. Performance was alright. Biggest gripe is that I couldn’t look at a book to see the stats. Book was moved off of royal road and put on an app that was not good at all.

Cut up
Reviewed: 03-28-23
The story is actually pretty good and the Travis Baldree does a great job. The one glaring issue. Is how the story is put together. Every few chapters it the story goes from past to present and back again. There is no reason for it. It doesn’t add anything to the story. There is no real mystery to what is going to happen. The only thing that the time change does is irritate.

It’s not easy being a System Traveler. Well, the traveling part is hard, at least. But once Derek got his feet under him, he hit the ground running, saving an entire area from a massive dungeon overflow in the process. He even found some companions to help ease the massive hole inside him formed from spending decades alone in the void.

Great Story but one major flaw.
Reviewed: 10-05-22
This series is a great story. I have been reading it for a while first on royal road then on Patreon. So when it came out on audible i thought this was the perfect time to start from the beginning and I still love it.
BUT there is one major flaw. That is the narrator says the skill names in a robotic voice to try to differentiate it from just regular text. Making this very jarring every time it is done. Like if the character is speaking and he says the skill instead of in his, the chr voice, it is a robot system voice. Like the world takes over the people anytime they speak a skills name. Other then that the narrator does an ok job. Hoping he changes Matt’s voice as he grows up and not just have him sound like a kid the whole time

Story
My master created me for his entertainment, leading adventurers to ruin. Betraying them at the last moment, just when their glorious victory was on hand. I have been found again by the newest member of a quartet of dungeon crawlers. Poor fool. This time will be no different. Or does it have to be? Maybe I don't need to spend eternity left in a deep, dark dungeon waiting to devour would-be heroes. Maybe, just maybe, I can take him over and use this new identity to leave and masquerade as an adventurer myself.

Performance is good.
Beware only about 2/3rds of the book is the story the rest is useless past scenes that have no relevance to the story and doesn’t help explain the character at all. Will be returning this book.

Good story. 2 big issues
Reviewed: 08-29-22
The story is interesting and good start to the series.
But there are 2 big issues. First is the transitions from present to past scenes. There is no transition thus while in the middle of a scene you start getting confused because everything is changing. The other big issue is also associated with the past scenes. I shouldn’t have the MC telling me what happened in the past just for it to then give me the past scene of literally what the MC just said and I am not talking about the MC starts talking about the past and that is used as a transition to the past scene. Remember there are no transitions. He talks about some of the things that happened in the past then a few chapters later it switches to the scene he talked about. Like at least a 3rd of this book was stuff the MC had already explained.
I will try the next book because I do like the story but if it continues I doubt I will get the third. Probably return the second if the transitions aren’t fixed.

Can’t stand soundbooth theater.
Reviewed: 07-28-22
Tried to give this a shot because I really like Kurtis eckstein’s books but should have known better. Sound effects and music should not over power the narration and it does. In the beginning soundbooth theater was ok with mild sound effects but at some point they just decided that sound effects are what matters and the story can go to hell.
