What a great story and narrator! So well written and well narrated, Ordinary Grace feels that the story is not a novel, but a retelling of fact.

Story
Mattie Ross, a 14-year-old girl from Dardanelle, Arkansas, sets out to avenge her Daddy who was shot to death by a no-good outlaw. Mattie convinces one-eyed "Rooster" Cogburn, the meanest U.S. marshal in the land, to ride along with her. In True Grit, we have a true American classic, as young Mattie, as vital as she is innocent, outdickers and outmaneuvers the hard-bitten men of the trail in a legend that will last through the ages.

Donna Tartt is the perfect voice for Mattie Ross.
A classic retold in classic fashion.
True Grit - three characters (& the pony Little Blackie) all demonstrate their own interpretation of True Grit-
Mattie's grit is shown by her call to personally see to the justice for her murdered father and her stout negotiations throughout.
LaBoeuf's grit is also guided by justice, duty (& less honorably personal gain) and has pushed him states away from home.
Rooster's grit is all Wild West John Wayne, Clint Eastwood strong. Justice and right is not as true to plumb as Mattie's, but he does mean to fulfill his mission- best seen when outnumbered 4:1 he yells fill your hands you....
And More Vulnerably when he comes up hero start to finish....

After the style of Holmes
Reviewed: 08-31-24
Many twists and turns and real surprise I never saw coming. Novel was as good as the classics with a crime fighting duo with a lot of places to go.
Barka and Lewellyn are another detective duo following Homes & Watson, Poroit & Hastings, Nero Wolfe & Archie Goodwin...
Barka was for more helpful than Poroit or Holmes and Lewllyn nowhere near as confident or snarky/humorous as Goodwin. But very enjoyable.

Reviewed: 08-22-24
There are very few characters in fiction I enjoy more than Archie Godwin. Nero and Archie team up to uncover the two who attacked orchid man Theodore Horstmund. This includes plenty of Nero Wolfe extra players - Saul Panzer, Lon Cohen, Del Boscom, Fred Durkin, and Inspector Kramer--- who has a strange interplay with Wolfe - almost allied forces too to bottom. You will enjoy this iteration.

What brought a well-educated young English man to such a state? Was he an outlaw? Was he a thief? No - he was a Bible smuggler and a brave one at that.

LEGACY of their Labor of love for The LORD JESUS long outlives their earthly lives
Reviewed: 04-29-24
So much of what we take for granted today came at the expense of peril, chains, and death of others. Indeed, like their LORD and MASTER, they willingly laid down their own lives that THE GOSPEL of CHRIST might go forward. We should know the Bible - and if we take it for granted, we MUST consider the cost at which we now have The WORD to read and know!!!! It cost most something - forfeiting earthly wealth, comfort, safety,, their homes, life with a family, chains, some prison, some the last great measure of their life. Yes and CHRIST HIMSELF laid down Title and Rights of GOD to become man, suffer the weight of our sins on HIS sinless body in sacrificing HIS life for our salvation.
So learn, stand fast, and never grow tired of the legacy of eternal love CHRIST and HIS servants bestow on us today... this freedom did not come at no cost for freedom is never free.
