Middle of the Road
Reviewed: 11-14-24
Im mainly comparing this to Defiance of the Fall because that is what it reminds me of. This might be an unfair comparison but I wanted to state it so you can take what Im about to say from the viewpoint.
The MC is good. Other characters are meh to good without any really stand out bad characters. What isnt so good is pretty much any relationship between any chars. This falls flat pretty hard.
The story itself is good, almost great but hollow. There is no ummm, substance to it. There is plenty of world building but it is lacking that spark that makes everything really interesting. It has a Mary Sue problem tied with the MCs power ups being boring & underwhelming.
It is like - Oh man, I got an epic rarity skill that allows me to see. Meanwhile, the antagonist is like hi im going to control an element in its entirety & kill everyone. MC - This deer sure is hard to fight.
I think the best way to explain it is the story is unbalanced. Im halfway through the 2nd book & it hasnt gotten better. This feels like a series that people will say - "It gets good around book 4."

Think you've had a bad day at work? Marcus definitely takes the cake. First, he had a horrible customer during his shift. Then he got fired by his boss. And after that, he got shot to death during a robbery. To top it all off, he awakened within the body of a weak and strange creature in a fantasy world full of deadly monsters. And that's just Monday!

Great concept - Poor execution
Reviewed: 10-28-24
This is a book that comes from a long line of unenjoyable Main Charactaers. The transition that occurs in the very beginning is portrayed in a very odd way but I gave it a go to the end.
It does not get better, actually it gets much worse & the character growth is so minor it isnt worth mentioning details. Until the side characters come in there really isnt anything worthwhile about the MC. The crass language used is so out of place.
I won't be reading the second book. I can't imagine putting myself through anymore.

Humanity stands at the brink of extinction. Earth has been bombarded by forces beyond our understanding. In the aftermath, monsters roam the Earth while humanity is forced into a few small safe zones, but not all is lost. When the shadows fell, so too did hope. Progentitor rays birthed a new breed of humans, known as supers. Now those few are all that stands between mankind and death upon the claws and fangs of monsters.

A great story/plot slowly overcome by smut
Reviewed: 10-20-24
The first book is very good. I love a story that gives a good reason for the existence of its premise and this has a lot of character growth
The 2nd book created a deeper plot but begins to decend into more smut than story.
The 3rd book you would almost expect there to be some massive time skip with how the entire tone and pretense of a story abruptly changes. The MC just because unmoored from his original personality & explained very poorly as to why.
The 4th book is like watching a toilet flush.
I stopped & DNF at this point. It became more of a chore to read even at 3x. Im so disappointed because the first 2 books are generally good.

New world. New life. New everything. I thought it was the end when my car flew off a cliff. But a beautiful goddess stepped in and offered me a second chance. Now I have the power of light itself within me, and that power is growing. Which is just as well, because I have to battle villains, monsters, mutants and more. I’m not a natural born superhero, but just maybe, I can become something more.

Mid or Meh?
Reviewed: 10-10-24
This is a very right down the middle book. There isnt anything new or really interesting that occurs though the series does start of interesting it quickly loses any depth that would have provided.
To be fair - Supers is a very meh topic because of how saturated that market is which means the story & the fights are all that will set it apart from books of the same genre.
I feel this book does a lot of things right to make it an average supers book. The lack of any grandiose story wise, simplistic non dynamic fights, OP MC that is a few brain cells short of Derp holds it back from being something really outstanding.
The attraction is a missed opportunity as well as it is portrayed more as an excuse for people to have sex then something integral to the world. This is like due to the lack of world building.
All in All it is a very middle of the road meh safe read. You could listen on 3x & not miss to much.

It took 3 Books to get good.
Reviewed: 09-18-24
It took 3 books to get to a point that was exicting if you ignore the pity party on the beginning. This book is the best in the series so far as it is entertaining, has adventure. good side chars. and the MC isnt a totally failure of a human being.
The end is quite lack luster though.

While not my favorite and kind of Dull to be honest it was still a lot of good ground work laid out for what is to be a pretty epic war.
The author does a good job adding in things that take a lot of time but not making you feel like your missing to much.
