Story
Losing her sight turns Lanie’s world upside down, bringing danger, mystery...and unexpected romance. A seemingly random shooting at her aunt’s coffee farm has left Lani Tagama blind. Now she must learn to navigate in a world of darkness. With the help of an ex-cop named Ben and a half-trained guide dog, Lani begins to regain her former independence. Then Lani and Ben discover that her injury wasn’t caused by a random shooting. It was a botched murder attempt. They must work together to discover the identity of the would-be murderer before he strikes again.

Too much
Reviewed: 09-18-24
The story was good but it rambled a lot. I had a hard time keeping it straight. Not until the last hour of the book was I able to figure out what had happened earlier. There were times I was so lost in the over abundance of words, I couldn’t tell who was speaking to whom.

Too many worthless words
Reviewed: 08-28-24
I liked the storyline but there were way too many worthless parts that did not affect the story. Even with that, there could have been a way to salvage the book with a great ending. The ending was anticlimactic, happy but anticlimactic. Maybe this was a good love story but it was not a good murder mystery and it took too long to get back to the plot.

I loved the way this book was written. I became immersed in the character’s life. Something I hate when listening to a book is the extra, unnecessary parts that feel like filler. This book had none. Excellent, highly recommended.

Story
Hillbilly Elegy is a passionate and personal analysis of a culture in crisis - that of white working-class Americans. The decline of this group, a demographic of our country that has been slowly disintegrating over 40 years, has been reported on with growing frequency and alarm but has never before been written about as searingly from the inside. J. D. Vance tells the true story of what a social, regional, and class decline feels like when you were born with it hung around your neck.

Six months ago, on the night Winter Black and her fellow agents took down The Preacher, a mall massacre occurred. Today, one of the gunmen responsible for taking 15 innocent lives that night is killed - with a well-placed bullet fired from nearly a mile away. Clearly a professional, either military or law enforcement, the sniper leaves zero evidence, other than a note.

Seems to be long on “feelings” and short on drama. I like some feelings to flesh out characters but not at the cost of holding my interest in the story.
