Story
Sergeant Nick Burch has returned to the crags of tribal Afghanistan seeking vengeance. Burch's platoon has one goal: to capture or kill an elusive insurgent, known as the Egyptian, a leader who is as much myth as he is man, highly revered and guarded by ferocious guerrillas. The soldiers of Burch's platoon look to him for leadership, but as the Egyptian slips farther out of reach, so too does Burch's battle-worn grasp on reality.

Best Book I've listened To
Reviewed: 02-14-19
I loved this book! The narrator was did a wonderful job and the author did a brilliant job of developing the characters. The book was so well written that I fell in love with the characters and ended up wishing I had the courage to be a soldier. The descriptions of the country were beautiful. I really left with my utmost respect for veterans. It also left me wondering if those who serve our country feel the tremendous costs they pay is worth it? I loved the honest real language. I had a little bit of a hard time with the military jargon and if I had been reading it this might have been easier for me to look up or maybe a glossary with terms could be helpful. I believe this is one of those books that is better listened to than read. It felt so real listening to it. I'm sure it is an excellent read too though.

Story
The occasion was a big birthday. And it inspired two close friends to get together in Dharamsala for a talk about something very important to them. The friends were His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu. The subject was joy. Both winners of the Nobel Prize, both great spiritual masters and moral leaders of our time, they are also known for being among the most infectiously happy people on the planet.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, I think there is something everyone can take from this book. The reader does an excellent job of performing multiple voices.
Have you listened to any of Douglas Carlton Abrams and full cast ’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
No I have not.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
No, I just have listened to it over and over again because I think it is so good.
Any additional comments?
I really love that it integrates science into the recommendations from the two spiritual leaders. I also love that it looks at two different religious leaders. I love how this relationship is presented.

I loved this book and have listened to it over and over again. I love that the main character is a teenager and you can see his transformation into becoming an adult. I love the amazingly courageous acts and the good character development. It left me really curious to know more about General Lears. Anyone who enjoys WW2 books will enjoy this book.

Terrible

This book was really disappointing as she uses one drama after another to tell the story. I found the steady drama tiring and very unbelievable. I had a very hard time believing the teenage daughter who spends all her time worrying about her mom (other than dreaming about Matthew) would be able to forget her parents (aka volatile Dad) would come home after having sex with Matthew. Hormones do range but this seemed far fetched. She doesn't just let us simmer on this close call it is of course followed up with a series of nail biter screamers. I had to finally quit listening.
